Best Mobile Tablet of MWC wasn’t even officially present at the show

While many MWC 2014 attendees may have brought their iPads along, Apple did not have an official presence at the show, a regular “habit” for the company. However, the iPad Air, Apple’s latest flagship iOS tablet, won the Best Mobile Tablet award GSMA awards – last year, Google’s Nexus 7 (2012) won the same award. More →

Apple’s iPhones look great and iPads feel amazing, but are they really high-quality devices?

Apple’s iPhones look great and iPads feel amazing, but are they really high-quality devices?

It’s a simple truth: no other mass-market consumer electronics devices on the planet look and feel like Apple’s iPhone handsets and iPad tablets. The company’s designs are gorgeous, the materials it uses are a cut above the rest, and the end results are devices that are sleeker than anything the competition has managed to come up with. Apple gadgets undoubtedly look and feel more premium than anything the competition has come up with, but are they really sturdier and built with more care than rival phones and tablets? More →

A simple explanation of why nothing Apple does is ever good enough

A simple explanation of why nothing Apple does is ever good enough

By on January 29, 2014 at 9:52 AM.

When a company like Apple announces record profit for a quarter and its share price immediately plummets by as much as 9%, it’s easy to get confused. What sense could that possibly make? Don’t feel bad, plenty of armchair pundits and even some professional Apple bloggers (and business bloggers) don’t seem to understand it either. Apple managed a gargantuan $13.1 billion profit on sales that totaled $57.6 billion last quarter. It sold more iPhones than it ever has before. It sold more iPad tablets than it ever has before. Mac sales actually grew year-on-year while the rest of the PC industry is free-falling. So, what the heck is going on here? More →

Video: Emotional iPad Air ad campaign continues with poetic new clips

Apple on Wednesday released two new iPad Air ads part of the company’s new “Your Verse” iPad campaign. The clips follow last week’s 90-second iPad ad, whose voice-over consists of a Robin Williams’ monologue from the “Dead Poets Society” movie in which he’s quoting Walt Whitman’s “O Me! O Life!” poem. In similar fashion, the two new shorter ads – titled “Sound Verse” and “Light Verse” – show the iPad being used in a variety of day-to-day activities, with only the ending of Whitman’s poem being delivered by both commercials: “That you are here – that life exists and identity, That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.” More →

iPad Air and Retina iPad mini are both hot sellers

New research from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) shows that the iPad Air and the Retina iPad mini accounted for 57% of the total number of iPads sold in the U.S. during the holiday quarter, eclipsing other iPad models available from Apple. The iPad Air and Retina iPad mini, which launched only on November 1st, accounted for 41% and 16% of total iPad sales, respectively. The fourth-generation iPad that was available in stores until the iPad Air was launched accounted for 13% of sales, while first-generation iPad mini sales made up 25%. Only 5% of sales were iPad 2 units, a number significantly lower than the 27% registered in the December quarter back in 2012. More →

This is what everyone hates the most about their tablets

People love their tablets… except when they don’t. Fixya, a self-described “community based trouble-shooting resource,” has followed up on a report it released last month about the biggest smartphone pain points with a new report showing what everyone hates the most about their tablets. Fixya said that it created its latest report by “sifting through over 10,000 problem impressions to determine the most common issues with each device,” so it does seem to give a pretty good snapshot about tablet owners’ biggest frustrations. Over half of the top 10 tablets in Japan are iPads

By on December 11, 2013 at 4:45 PM.

Over half of the top 10 tablets in Japan are iPads

There are certain markets around the world where Apple has to compete fiercely with other vendors to retain its position near the top of the heap but Japan does not appear to be one of them. According to Japanese consumer electronics tracking company BCN, iPads currently account for 6 of the top 10 best-selling tablets in Japan. Assorted versions of the iPad Air have reached the No. 1, 5, 9 and 10 sports, while different versions of the iPad mini occupy No. 2 and 8. The ASUS Nexus 7 holds the other four slots. These results aren’t quite as overwhelmingly dominant as Japan’s iPhone sales figures, which puts Apple’s smartphone in 9 of the top 10 slots, but the iPad is unquestionably the most wanted tablet in Japan. Now that Apple’s supply of new devices has started to meet demand, expect a huge holiday season for the pride of Cupertino worldwide.
