Forbes: HTC One mini could have been perfect, instead misses by a mile

When early details and photos of the HTC One mini began leaking several months ago, it looked like HTC might be developing the perfect Android phone with everything that made the HTC One amazing, but stuffed into a more manageable package. Now that the phone is finally official and we’ve given it a thorough preview, we can safely say that this isn’t the case. Instead, HTC is looking to attack the mid-range smartphone market with a handset that is sleek and sophisticated, yet affordable. And to make sure the phone is as affordable as possible, the One’s cutting-edge components have been replaced with less costly parts. Some were more disappointed by the news than others, but Forbes contributor Sharif Sakr might be the saddest of the bunch — he says that HTC almost gave us the perfect smartphone but instead it missed by a mile. HTC One mini preview: HTC’s gorgeous flagship phone reimagined for the mid-range market

By on July 18, 2013 at 5:01 AM.

HTC on Thursday unveiled the HTC One mini, a smaller version of its critically acclaimed HTC One flagship Android phone. The handset features a design that is strikingly similar to the original, but scaled down both in size as well as refinement. Whereas the currently available flagship HTC One is easily one of the most impressive smartphones the world has ever seen in terms of design, materials and build quality, the HTC One mini dials things back in order to address the mid-range smartphone market. Getting the phone’s price down was HTC’s priority here and pumping the brakes on the hardware was clearly necessary, but was the flagship One’s allure lost in translation? More →

HTC One Max, One mini mentioned in new leak alongside Nokia ‘Eros’ and ‘Mars’

As smartphone makers get ready to announce their fall lineups each year, we can always look forward to a noticeable increase in the volume of leaks. This year is no different of course, and a newly leaked document said to be an inventory list from German carrier O2 Germany may reveal several new handsets that will soon be unveiled. German gadget blog mobiFlip recently published the document, which mentions the unannounced HTC One mini, HTC One Max, Nokia “Eros” and Nokia “Mars” smartphones. Photos and specs for the HTC One mini have already leaked extensively, but the other three devices are something of a mystery for the time being. The Nokia devices are listed by their code-names though, so one may be the upcoming Lumia 1020 — “Eros” is similar to “EOS,” which was an earlier code-name used to identify the 1020. The leaked document follows below. More →

It has been widely reported that HTC is planning to launch a scaled-down version of its flagship HTC One smartphone. Engadget on Wednesday posted an image of what it claims is the HTC One mini next to the full-sized One smartphone. The website confirmed that the handset will be equipped with a smaller 4.3-inch 720p display, a 1.4GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor and an Ultrapixel rear camera. HTC One mini revealed in leaked photos – is this the perfect Android phone?

BGR reviewed the HTC One in April and called it the closest thing the world has ever seen to a no-compromise smartphone. Among our minor quibbles was the fact that the phone is definitely on the larger side of manageable, though this is certainly a highlight for many phablet-obsessed users. If you’re like us and would have preferred that the One be a bit smaller, it looks like HTC is about to launch the perfect Android phone for you. Estonian gadget blog Delfi on Wednesday published photos of the upcoming HTC One mini, and it looks fantastic. More →
