There’s finally a solution that lets you use the iPhone 6s Plus with one hand

I wrote about my time with Apple’s iPhone 6s Plus back in October, and not much has changed since then. With the iPhone 6s as my main phone now, I still miss some things about the Plus version — mainly that big gorgeous display and the optical image stabilization that helps improve image and video quality. I use my smartphone far too much with one hand to keep the Plus though, and since publishing that post I’ve corresponded with dozens of people who feel the same way.

Well, if you’re willing to do a bit of tweaking, there’s now a solution that will let you keep your Plus-sized iPhone and actually use it comfortably with one hand. More →

Did Apple quietly improve Bluetooth speed on iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2?

Bluetooth speed probably isn’t the kind of hardware detail you’re interested in when buying a new computer or smartphone, including the iPhone 6s. In fact, Apple did not even talk about the iPhone 6s’s Bluetooth capabilities during its September 9th announcement event, though it did mention the Bluetooth abilities of the new Apple TV and remote during the event.

However, it appears the company did bump the Bluetooth speed from Bluetooth 4.0 to Bluetooth 4.2 on the devices it released last year. More →

Google’s Nexus 6P is now the second-best camera on DxOMark

The Nexus 6P Nexus 5X haven’t even started shipping yet, and the new phablet is already being praised in camera reviews. Google on Tuesday insisted on the camera performance of its new devices, explaining why there’s no need for optical image stabilization and suggesting the phone is even better than Apple’s most recent iPhone.

Website DxOMark already put the Nexus 6P through its camera tests, concluding the phone is better than most smartphones, coming in behind just one smartphone. More →

10 of the best iPhone widgets in the world

By on September 3, 2015 at 10:06 AM.

When Apple first added widget support to the iPhone and iPad, Apple fans had mixed feelings. Many Apple users had been waiting for widget support for years, and they had hoped to see home screen widgets similar to the ones available on Google’s Android platform. Instead, Apple confined its widget support to the Notification Center, where widgets stay hidden from sight until the user swipes down from the top of the screen.

There are definitely pros (battery life!) and cons (no zero-touch information) to Apple’s approach, but the very fact that widgets are almost always hidden from sight has led many people to forget about them all together. Let’s fix that: Here are 10 apps with some of the best iPhone widgets available right now, and many of them are completely free to download and use. More →

Most things are subjective when it comes to comparing smartphones, and people rarely agree when it comes to “the best” this and “the best” that. In a few rare cases, however, the majority of smartphone fans out there actually come to an agreement. Such is the case with the shared title of “best camera phone in the world,” which most people agree was shared by the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy note 4 in 2014.

Now, the guard is changing and it’s time to see if these two companies can make the world’s top camera phones even better. More →

A $150 iPhone 6 case that’s worth every penny?

A $150 iPhone 6 case that’s worth every penny?

By on August 14, 2015 at 11:04 AM.

We cover iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cases on BGR all the time. In the past we weren’t big on smartphone cases, but the design of Apple’s latest iPhones has made protective cases an absolute necessity. Why? Because the aluminum finish on the iPhone 6 is so slippery that drops are inevitable without some kind of case to provided added grip.

I’ve shown you a wide range of iPhone cases that span all shapes, sizes and price points. I also showed you my favorite iPhone 6 case, which is a sleek metal bumper that is now just $13 on Amazon. While inexpensive iPhone cases are great, there are also some options out there that are surprisingly pricey — can they really be worth the expense?
