Diskus is the accessory every Apple Watch owner has been waiting for

The irony wasn’t lost on me when I realized the most annoying thing about the Apple Watch shortly after I purchased one last year. It was the charging cable. Well, the 27 minutes it took to open and refresh any app was probably the most annoying thing, but the charging cable was a close second. The good news was the fact that the Apple Watch finally came with a charging cable that was actually long enough to reach from a wall outlet to a table, unlike any other iOS device Apple has ever released (hence the irony). The bad news was that it was a proprietary wireless charger, so it meant yet another cable to carry around while traveling. Forgetting it was all too easy, and wouldn’t be long before the first time I traveled and left my Watch charger behind.

Thankfully, someone finally created the Apple Watch charger Apple should have released from the get-go. More →

Apple’s 2017 Apple Watch may be the wearable we’ve all been waiting for

Apple’s 2017 Apple Watch may be the wearable we’ve all been waiting for

A new report from DigiTimes claims that there are some interesting changes in store for the Apple Watch. According to the publication — which admittedly has a spotty record with Apple rumors — Apple is planning to replace the OLED panels it currently uses on the Apple Watch with Micro LED technology sometime next year.

The report adds that the new display panels will be built on technology Apple acquired when it purchased LuxVue back in 2014, a company well regarded for its power-efficient micro-LED displays.

The benefits of switching from OLED to Micro LED are certainly intriguing: not only might it help increase battery life on the Apple Watch, but it may also result in a richer and more vibrant color gamut with higher resolutions. More importantly, because Micro LED panels are thinner and lighter than OLED screens, it stands to reason that the Apple Watch 3 casing will be thinner than its current form, a welcome change for those who find the current design a bit unwieldy.

With watchOS 3, the Apple Watch is finally ready to soar

With watchOS 3, the Apple Watch is finally ready to soar

The Apple Watch has something of a strange existence. Ahead of its release, the hype and anticipation surrounding Apple’s long-rumored wearable was arguably unprecedented. But in the weeks and months following its release, it became immediately clear that the Apple Watch wasn’t going to immediately become the breakout success many initially thought and hoped it would be.

That being the case, Apple still hasn’t divulged any specific sales figures for the Apple Watch, a curious move for a company that loves touting favorable stats and figures every chance it gets. While the Apple Watch is far too young to be categorized as a flop, there’s no denying that the device was hampered by some frustrating performance issues and a user interface that was uncharacteristically challenging to master.

Save up to $220 on 10 different Apple Watch models in this big sale

Is Apple about to unveil a brand new Apple Watch at next week’s WWDC 2016 keynote event? No, probably not, but there’s a big sale going on ahead of the big event anyway. The Apple Watch is a bargain at its newly reduced full retail prices, but B&H is offering as much as $220 off 10 different models in a new sale that’s going on right now. And we’re not just talking about the most expensive models here, either. For example, you can get a silver Sport model with a blue band for just $249.00 or a gold Sport model with a navy band for $279.00. More →

What people don’t get about the Apple Watch

What people don’t get about the Apple Watch

By on May 5, 2016 at 1:20 PM.

There’s no getting around it: the first-gen Apple Watch leaves a lot to be desired. Not only can Apple’s wearable be painfully slow at times, its user interface could stand to be much more intuitive. Whereas anyone could pick up a first-gen iPhone and intuitively figure out how it works, the Apple Watch requires a bit of a (frustrating) learning curve.

What’s more, even the most ardent of Apple Watch supporters would have to concede that the device is not the revolutionary game-changer many people were anticipating in the weeks and months prior to its unveiling. Additionally, Apple has been uncharacteristically quiet about cumulative iPhone sales. Taken together, all the factors above have contributed to an increasingly popular narrative that would have you believe that the Apple Watch is a complete flop and nothing more than a failure indicative of the fact that Apple’s ability to innovate likely vanished the day Steve Jobs died.

The reality, however, is much more nuanced. In short, the success of the iPhone and the iPad have saddled subsequent Apple products with wholly unrealistic expectations. A revolutionary product like the iPhone is truly a once in a lifetime device, yet that unfairly remains the barometer by which the Apple Watch is being judged.

Developer gets Windows 95 running on an Apple Watch

The Apple Watch may admittedly feel a big sluggish at times, but the device’s internals – 520 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage – are more impressive than what many old PCs were running back in the early to mid 90s. That being the case, developer Nick Lee recently took it upon himself to see if he could get Microsoft’s seminal Windows release – Windows 95 – up and running on the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch ‘flop’ outsold Rolex by about $1.5 billion

Apple Watch ‘flop’ outsold Rolex by about $1.5 billion

The Apple Watch is a miserable failure… or something like that.

On Monday we discussed how a number of high-profile industry watchers have labeled Apple’s first foray into fashion and wearable tech a flop. For whatever reason, nothing Apple does is a success in some people’s eyes unless it instantly becomes a business as big as the iPhone. Of course, we also noted the obvious fact that not even the iPhone was as big as the iPhone when it first launched. Actually, the Apple Watch is believed to have doubled Apple’s iPhone revenue during their respective first years of availability.

Well, here’s another simple comparison for you to help gauge just how badly the Apple Watch flopped: According to estimates, Apple Watch sales in its first 12 months totaled about $1.5 billion more than Rolex’s total revenue last year. More →
