Apple Watch Series 2 review roundup

Apple’s big press conference last week obvious focused on the companies latest and greatest smartphones, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. We’ve yet to get our hands on the new models so our review is forthcoming, but early reviews suggest Apple’s new iPhones are far less boring than some tech blogs might have led you to believe ahead of the iPhone 7’s debut. They’re hardly perfect and there’s no question that there are some issues that will bother users, but they’re easily the best iPhones Apple has ever made and they’re the most powerful smartphones on the planet by a wide margin. You can check out an iPhone 7 review roundup right here.

On Wednesday, however, attention is turning to the third new product Apple unveiled on stage last week during its big event: the Apple Watch Series 2. The early reviews are in and, as is the case with every second-generation gadget that has ever existed, reviewers are saying they wish this new version was the device Apple released in the first place. Thankfully there were a few more meaningful things said about the new Apple Watch Series 2, and you’ll find our review roundup below. More →

What the iPhone 7, new Apple Watch, and AirPods reveal about next year’s iPhone 8 upgrade

Apple unveiled two hot iPhones last week — they are hot, no matter what you hear about their boring design — and a formidable Apple Watch Series 2 that will give even (smart) watch makers even more headaches. The new devices have some impressive new features. Just look past the familiar design, and you’ll spot a lot of exciting gems.

Look even harder, and you’ll see signs of the next-gen iPhone, the building blocks that Apple needs now for the smartphones of the future. And yes, the wireless AirPods are very exciting too, regardless of how much fun one can make at their expense.

In what follows we’ll look at the various iPhone 7, Apple Watch, and AirPods features that indicate what’s in store for next year’s 10th anniversary iPhone, which we’ll just call iPhone 8 from here. More →

Pokemon Go Plus finally launches next week

Apple made waves with Nintendo news yesterday. Mario is finally coming to the iPhone. But that’s not the only hot Nintendo news that came out of Apples iPhone 7 event. The company also invited Niantic on stage to demo the Pokemon Go app for the Apple Watch that will make playing the highly addictive game a lot more fun. The Apple Watch is now cheaper than ever, and it’s available in a variety of flavors, so it’ll be a great addition to your gadgets collection. Apple Watch ‘architect’ opens up about what developing the Apple Watch was really like

The Apple Watch hasn’t yet become the groundbreaking and culturally transformative device many initially assumed it would be, but one would be hard-pressed to call the device a flop just yet. As we highlighted last week, the Apple Watch 2 will introduce a number of compelling new features that may transform it into an unequivocal and mainstream hit product as opposed to a device worn by a niche and passionate group of users.

With the Apple Watch nearly 18 months old, Fast Company recently sat down with former Apple employee Bob Messerschmidt, an integral member of the team that helped bring the Apple Watch to market. Specifically, Messerschmidt helped develop the heart rate sensor on the Apple Watch, one of the devices more widely used and important features. Indeed, there have even been instances where the Apple Watch’s heart sensor has helped save lives.

Diskus is the accessory every Apple Watch owner has been waiting for

The irony wasn’t lost on me when I realized the most annoying thing about the Apple Watch shortly after I purchased one last year. It was the charging cable. Well, the 27 minutes it took to open and refresh any app was probably the most annoying thing, but the charging cable was a close second. The good news was the fact that the Apple Watch finally came with a charging cable that was actually long enough to reach from a wall outlet to a table, unlike any other iOS device Apple has ever released (hence the irony). The bad news was that it was a proprietary wireless charger, so it meant yet another cable to carry around while traveling. Forgetting it was all too easy, and wouldn’t be long before the first time I traveled and left my Watch charger behind.

Thankfully, someone finally created the Apple Watch charger Apple should have released from the get-go. More →

Save $200 on iPhones (and a bunch of other stuff) in Best Buy’s 2-day sale

People really like their Apple Watches, customer satisfaction survey finds

J.D. Power is a well-regarded market research company that has been compiling customer satisfaction reports for all sorts of products for years. You’ve probably seen its surveys used to hate on Land Rovers, but the most recent results are about smartwatches.

In the 2016 Smartwatch Device Satisfaction Report (recommended bedtime reading if you have trouble sleeping), Apple comes in first place, with Samsung finishing second.
