When Nintendo launched Mario Maker — the level creator and playground that lets you make side-scrolling stages that are as clever, funny, or difficult as you want — they couldn’t ever have predicted that someone would build something as evil as this. It’s a Mario Maker level called “P is for Pain,” and it’s absolutely one of the most insane Mario levels ever to be thought up, much less beaten by a human.
The level is nothing but a massive void filled with deadly spikes and P-Switches. There’s no enemies to beat but there’s also no platform on which to catch your breath; in order to beat the level you must jump from switch to switch, avoiding the spike traps along the way and without stopping for even a second. It is absolutely brutal.
The level was created by a guy named Dan Salvato. Salvato is the man behind FrankerFaceZ — a browser extension for Twitch users that allows for custom emotes — and 20XX, a Super Smash Bros. Melee mod tool. In short, he has plenty of some experience messing around with games and gamers, and his Mario Maker level does demonstrates both of those skills.
If you’re interested in giving “P is for Pain” a run for yourself, you can download the level on your Wii U and test your skills with this code: 7FD3-0000-0095-698B. Fair warning: If you end up throwing a controller through your fancy HDTV in a fit of pure frustration, we cannot be held responsible. Have fun!
