Normally at this point in a smartphone’s launch cycle, we’re beyond sick and tired of seeing all the leaks and we just want to get the announcement over with already. In the case of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, however, we’re actually still pretty excited. Samsung’s next-generation flagship phones feature an incredible new design, and you can see how truly impressive it is right here in this post from Monday. The South Korean smartphone giant managed to stuff a massive 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display into a smartphone that’s the same width as a 4.7-inch iPhone and just a bit taller. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8+ phablet crams an even bigger 6.2-inch screen into a phone with roughly the same footprint as Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhones.
Of course, the Galaxy S8 is much more than just a pretty face. As we saw yesterday when benchmark test results leaked, the Galaxy S8 is also an absolute monster where power and performance are concerned. Seeing all the leaked photos with the phone powered off had us focused on the phone’s design over the past few weeks, but now a freshly leaked video shows the phone powered on and being used.
You’ve read the rumors. You’ve seen the renders. You’ve checked out the leaked photos. You’ve ogled the specs. Now, it’s time to feast your eyes on a real live Galaxy S8 powered on and being used.
The leaked video, which was posted to Weibo on Tuesday morning by a user whose name apparently translates to “Sexy Mosquito 1,” shows a Jet Black Galaxy S8. Oh, sorry, we meant a “Black Sky” Galaxy S8. The phone seen here is powered on in the video, and the lock screen is visible at the start of the brief clip. The user then swipes to the home screen before flipping the phone over to display the back.
No new information can be gleaned from the video, though to be fair, there isn’t much that we don’t know already. Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ next Wednesday during a press conference in New York City, and the phones are then expected to be released about a month later on either April 21st or April 28th.
