Apple a few days ago acknowledged that there’s a huge iCloud Calendar spam problem that’s affecting many users. The company is now out with a fix for the issue, but you’re not going to necessarily like it. Apple will not magically eliminate all the spammy invites that you might be receiving, but it’ll try to limit the number by letting you manually mark them as junk.

On top of that, there’s one other “problem” with the fix. As 9to5Mac reports, the junk marking feature only works online, which means you have to go to iCloud.com to take advantage of it. You can’t mark spammy calendar entries as spam on your iPhone or Mac for the time being, but it’s likely that Apple will include the feature in upcoming iOS and macOS releases.

The Report Junk button appears for calendar invites not originating from your contacts. That doesn’t mean all such invites are spam, but at least you will have a way to deal with the ones that are.

Once you press that button, the spammy invites will be sent to Apple for further investigation. Furthermore, junk invitations will be deleted automatically from your calendar, but not before you confirm that you actually want to mark an invite as spam.

Apple has not announced the new measure officially, deciding to quietly roll it out over the weekend.

If the new Report Junk option isn’t enough for you, there are other things you can do to limit or try to stop Calendar spam. But you’re not going to like those either.
