It’s finally here, Mario fans: Super Mario Run will soon be available on the App Store, bringing a familiar universe to the gaming console you carry in your pocket, the iPhone. Before you even consider whether Nintendo’s new Mario creation is worth the expense, you should learn how the game is played. Forget everything you thought you knew about Nintendo’s Mario games, because this mobile game can be played with just one hand.
In Super Mario Run, Mario just runs and does some of the hard work all by himself. He’s going to avoid obstacles, and perform small jumps. You only need to touch the screen when more complex moves are needed.
The object of the game is to collect as many coins as possible. You’ll use the coins to defeat friends in duels (but make sure you impress the toad as well) and to build some sort of Mario Kingdom. You’ll also be able to unlock additional game modes and Mario characters, just so you don’t get bored.
Sounds too complicated? Nintendo uploaded a Super Mario Run video that shows you everything you need to know about the game, including game controls, game modes, and reward — see it below.
Super Mario Run launches in the App Store on December 15th and it’ll cost you $9.99. While you wait you can check out Jimmy Fallon playing the game, and you can even play it yourself right now — we told you how in an earlier post.
