With just a few days to go before Apple’s special media event kicks off in San Francisco next week, the mother of all iPhone 7 leaks has landed right in our laps. In a research note published by reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and obtained by MacRumors, Kuo gives us the low-down on everything we can expect to see from Apple’s next-gen iPhone.
Over the past few months, we’ve certainly seen no shortage of rumors regarding the iPhone 7, but Kuo’s latest research report provides us with our clearest look yet at what Apple has planned. So without further ado, here’s the most definitive rundown of iPhone 7 details we’ve seen to date.
DON’T MISS: The Google hype machine fails again
One of the more interesting aspects of Kuo’s report centers on iPhone storage capacity. While we already suspected that Apple was doing away with the 16GB entry-level model in favor of a 32GB model, Kuo adds that the mid-tier iPhone 7 model will feature 128GB of storage (as opposed to 64) and that the upper-tier iPhone 7 model will feature 256GB of storage. This of course should come as welcome news for iPhone users who, thanks to 4K video, storage-hungry apps and high-res photos often find themselves running out of space.
Also interesting is that the iPhone 7 is said to come in five distinct color options: silver, gold, and rose gold, “dark black” and “piano black.” Apparently we’ll have to keep waiting for that rumored Dark Blue model.
As for the iPhone 7 Plus’ rumored dual camera scheme, MacRumors relays the following:
Dual-lens rear camera on the iPhone 7 Plus, which will increase Apple’s costs by about $40 and could make the iPhone 7 Plus more expensive than the iPhone 6s Plus. Both lenses will be 12-megapixel, but one will be a wide-angle camera with larger pixel sizes, a 6P lens, and optical image stabilization, while the second will be a telephoto lens with smaller pixel sizes and a 5P lens.
Other tidbits of note include the fact that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will incorporate the same wide color display technology Apple first introduced on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. This should make for improved color quality and fidelity. Further, the iPhone 7, as previously rumored, will feature a static home button (similar to the trackpads on Apple’s MacBook line), improved water resistance, a 2.4 GHz. A10 processor and much more.
As to the static home button, it will be interesting to see how users react to this stark design shift. For those unfamiliar, Apple’s new home button will rest upon a series of sensors that will provide haptic feedback when pressed. The design is said to give users the illusion that the home button is mechanical.
Lastly, Kuo relays that each iPhone 7 will ship with Lightning EarPods and, as previously rumored, a 3.5mm to Lightning headphone adapter.
