iPhone Device Software 2.0.1 on the way?

Exclusive

Every once in a while, we have a slow enough day at the BGR HQ that we sometimes put on our “nerd glasses” and peruse our web server logs for some nitty gritty information. As we are a fairly popular gadget and technology blog, (no, we’re not declaring war) it seems like a popular ‘first destination’ for many people who have loaded up the latest beta OS for an existing device or even unreleased devices not yet on the market.

Needless to say, over the last few days, we have noticed some interesting build numbers for the iPhone and iPhone 3G. It appears that AT&T and Apple are testing iPhone device software version 2.0.1, builds 5B101 (iPhone) and 5B103 (iPhone 3G). Although we are not certain of much more information than this little bit, we do know that testing began prior to the launch of device software 2.0 and the iPhone 3G on July 11th. We have also narrowed down the known test users to the San Francisco (40 mins from Cupertino) and Atlanta (HQ of AT&T Mobility) areas. Hmm.

Regardless, this shows that Apple has a nice headstart on what will likely be the first major update to the iPhone 3G… and perhaps we’ll even get an official iChat client!

P.S. – Don’t forget our totally awesome iPhone 3G giveaway, ok? You’ll be getting OS 2.0.1 soon enough…

I have an EDGE model with 2.0, and I have had several bugs.
    Crashing Apps,
huge delay looking up contacts and calender,
    volume changing,
    auto-lock time changing,
apps locking up for 30 sec.

I think I saw a windows logo when i reset my phone last time….

I thought I was alone with this. The bluetooth echo’s are terrible!!!

When will this “phone?” get true voice dialing capability thru bluethooth headsets??

Perhaps they figured out how to put the todo lists from iCal on the thing. It is seriously beginning to drive me nuts not to have this integrated…

This firmware update can’t come soon enough…

I’m also having the volume problem, along with the crashing apps on my 3G maybe that’s what the up date is fixing it’s a big problem just a bit annoying! Also I had a samsung blackjack before my iPhone 3g and wouldn’t even make it a full day on the extended battery. 3g eats battery power, that’s it no if ands or buts about it. Thing is, with the iPhone you can run wifi or edge if you don’t need 3g, which on a college campus like I’m on I never need it. And because it charges USB there are very few places where you can’t charge it. The battery issue isn’t that bad, it’s small compared to the other greatness you get from this phone.

If the update is in the works for 2.0.1 I hope that apple would really look into allowing the apple tv to search the web I don’t think that that would slow down any of apple computer products in fact I think that it would push apple further away from others. as a iphone first gen owner and apple tv owner I think this is the step needed to put apple tv on the map
the remote using the iphone is great but it just makes me wonder when oh when is apple going to take that next step like the phone if any one can bring the package to the masses it APPLE.

    A 50% decrease is A LOT.

    since the 2.0 upgrade
phone won’t sync with outlook calendar
can’t send e-mail or reply to e-mails received
has anyone heard exactly when this 2.0.1 will be available? I’m not easy to anger but I gotta tell ya since upgrading to 2.0 my fist gen phone may as well be a paper weight. No help from AT&T or Apple either. I just wish I’d never upgraded to 2.0. This just plain sucks.

Apple has released a software update for the IPhone version 3G. The software version is 2.0.1. Here are some of the changes I noticed.
    1) The backup are much faster.
    2) Keypad loads quicker.
    3) Screen rotation in Safari appears to be smoother.

Guys, let’s face it – BT audio is pretty crap. iPods and iPhones have decent audio quality, but why destroy it with A2DP? This should be at the bottom of the wishlist. And anyone who boasts about the features their BB has are missing the point. BB doesn’t have 16GB integrated, nor the screen size, nor the intuitive interface of the iPhone. BBs are still better if you’re hardcore into mail on the go, but for anything multimedia, iPhone has it hands down.

I had almost given up on this being released. Started to get the feeling it was just going to be all in one with the bigger 2.1 release.
