Nearly two months after the last major mobile software updates, Apple released iOS 14.7 on Monday. Apple’s new MagSafe Battery Pack accessory will go on sale in Apple Stores starting this Tuesday. Therefore, it was important to release iOS 14.7 before the device hit store shelves. After all, iOS 14.7 is required for the battery pack to work.

This is not quite as substantial an update as iOS 14.6, but there are some notable new features. Most importantly, iOS 14.7 adds support for the new MagSafe Battery Pack on iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. There are also a few improvements for Apple Card Family and the Home app, as well as fixes for Podcasts, Apple Music, and Mail.

How to download and install iOS 14.7

Installing a new update on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is an incredibly simple process. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and then tap “Download and Install” at the bottom of that page. If you prefer, you can also install the update through iTunes by connecting your iOS device to a computer. Whichever method you choose, just make sure to back up your device before installing an update so that you don’t risk losing any of your data during the procedure.
