A surprisingly better sequel to The Hunger Games that follows the book series’ dystopian themes.
‘Wyatt Cenac: Brooklyn’ (2014) — In his second full-length special, Wyatt Cenac discusses his thoughts on everything from adults giving each other hickeys to the vast changes in Brooklyn.
Wyatt Cenac killed it during his Daily Show stint, so this special will be one to watch.
‘E-Team’ (2014) — This arresting documentary profiles four human rights investigators who’ve dedicated themselves to combating criminal abuses around the globe. The team’s challenges include the atrocities committed by oppressive regimes in Syria and Libya.
The world is a monster when it comes to human right abuses. This doc looks like an interesting watch.
‘The 100′ Season 1 (2014) — Starring Eliza Taylor, Eli Goree, and Thomas McDonell. Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, when a spaceship housing humanity’s lone survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth in hopes of possibly re-populating the planet.
It’s a teen drama with sci-fi that a 13-year-old girl would love.
‘Django Unchained’ (2012) — Starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio. With the help of a German bounty hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.
Top-notch acting, writing, and directing. This is a highlight of the releases this week.
‘Sons of Anarchy’ Season 6 (2013) — Starring Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, and Mark Boone Junior. A man in his early 30s struggles to find a balance in his life between being a new dad and his involvement in a motorcycle club.
More motorcycling and baffling plot twists. If you’ve been a fan from the beginning, you’ll no doubt be streaming this one.
‘The Carrie Diaries’ Season 2 (2014) — Starring AnnaSophia Robb, Austin Butler, and Ellen Wong. Carrie Bradshaw is in her junior year of high school in the early 1980s. She asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while navigating the worlds of high school and Manhattan.
It’s like Sex and the City, but no nudity.
