Google hates smartphone patent wars, but buys 1,000 new patents to go to war

Business

Google’s general counsel Kent Walker apparently doesn’t see eye to eye with the rest of his company. “The tech industry has a significant problem,” Walker said earlier this week. “Software patents are kind of gumming up the works of innovation.” According to SEO by the Sea however, Google purchased 1,030 patents from IBM just two weeks before Walker made those comments. According to the report, the patents purchased cover a wide rage of IP, “from the fabrication and architecture of memory and microprocessing chips, to other areas of computer architecture including servers and routers as well.” Still more patents cover specific database functions, various aspects of object-oriented programming and even some business processes. The terms of Google’s acquisition have not been disclosed.

Yeah, time to find a new mobile industry news site. The level of misleading, troll-baiting crap has just gotten a little too high for my tastes. I’m sure my clicks will be sorely missed…

as long as it helps the OS community, rather than become a catalyst for Google to become another patent troll (I’m starting at you Apple and MS), then good

what do you want them to just take cheap shots from apple? they need to defend themselves. apple started this whole mess with patents because they were too p***y to fight htc, samsung & the whole android posse. they want to stop them because when it comes down to it all those android companies are innovating at a pace that apple cant keep up with so apple is trying to stifle there innovations so that they could either a) have some left for themselves cause they want it easy, b) make products at there own very slow pace without having android smartphones making them look outdated…remember back to the iphone’s with no mms & no real GPS? so they actually want to eF us all & you have these fanboys that are to stupid to realize that its not cool or a game to screw the market & the buyers because of greed, even though they’re the “richest” company second to exxon oil, they want more & more & eF the buyers, thats right if it was up to apple we wouldnt have mms nor gps for another decade, hell! we werent suppose to have the retina screen till 2015! but thanks to COMPETITION iphone put it into production now instead of later. apple isnt good for competition & no competition is bad for everyone & our messed up economy.
