Nokia to hold Symbian smartphone event on April 12th

mobile

Nokia recently began sending out invites to an event in London taking place next Tuesday, April 12th. We’re not sure what Nokia is going to announce — possibly the latest Symbian update, we’d imagine — though it’s entirely possible this could involve some hardware as well. What we do know is that Nokia is holding its event on the same day that HTC is holding an event in London, and that definitely didn’t end well for Nokia two years ago.

Nokia dosen’t even compare to HTC anymore. Maybe Nokia will pick it up and become competition again.

Lets hope they get a little more serious. They can’t afford to just sit on their butts till they release a Windows Phone 7 device in late 2011/early 2012.

It’s Nokia farewell of Symbian event and hello to Windows Phone 7 event.

seems possible. but then after the event, in hindsight, symbian adopters who recently acquired highend devices (N8, E7, etc) would likely take this as a slap in the face.

i mean, if it’s a windows phone 7 event, then that’s what it should be called. nokia is pretending/claiming that symbian will be maintained for at least some period of time, and to announce its successor at an event titled ‘discover what’s new with symbian…’ would be COLD.

my guess: this is more about the refreshed UI for symbian. probably won’t be launched until late summer or whatever, but announced now to try to bail the boat out a little (or, more fitting, to put out a couple flames on the burning platform).

maybe the revamped UI will launch sooner for the C7, as it already has bits of the upcoming symbian update in it?

if they succeed in launching the refreshed UI this quickly after MWC, i’ll be angry. years of waiting, and they wait until the death tolls are ringing to become fast-paced? no, tell me it aint so. beta labs is releasing interesting software on a fast pace, Qt is updated and actually usable on the platform, the whole symbian platform could very well become a good competitor just after it’s flushed down the toilet.

Oh god no, last thing we need is more Android handsets.

Maybe they will announce Android on their phones? Isn’t just about the time they drop the Symbian? NOKIA people: Symbian is no longer what it used to be!!!

    What’s new with Symbian smartphones?

“Now with even more built-in obsolescence!”

NOKIA has nothing to worry about, it will sell dozens of its’ new Windows Mobile 7 phones.

Its a Symbian Event for a reason…Not Android, otherwise it would just be a Nokia event. Please Android lovers give it up. Nokia will never do android. I know its sad. But you know what is sad…WP7 peaked already @ 9% sliding down to 7%.
