iPhone 5 NFC implementation will include a ‘unique twist,’ analyst claims

mobile

In a note to investors on Thursday, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White reiterated a rumor that Apple’s next-generation iPhone will include integrated NFC capabilities. The rumor was essentially confirmed by European carrier Deutsche Telekom at Mobile World Congress earlier this week when the company stated that it will offer an NFC-enabled iPhone in the first half of this year. Interestingly, however, White also noted that his sources indicate the iPhone 5′s NFC capabilities will feature a “twist” that will differentiate the device from its competition. Mobile payments are expected to be the main focus of NFC-enabled cell phones, which are being promoted aggressively in 2011 by cell phone makers, carriers and other companies that will earn revenue from the transactions the emerging technology will facilitate. The idea of a twist in Apple’s NFC implementation could prove to be another interesting selling point for the company’s next iPhone when it launches this summer.

And my guess is that either the author doesnt know anything about it or it is 30% cut for Apple for any transactions done using the NFC on your mobile device

The new MBP;s are going to have NFC too so it will just be drop on your mac and your all synced up. Apple gotta love em.

I bet it’ll be something PayPal like; anyone with an iPhone will be able to “give” money to a friend sitting with them. Useful at restaurants, the bar, buying tickets, paying for a used car, rent from a roommate… you name it.

Its just gonna be a proprietary thing that only works with other iNFC devices. sorta like how airplay is watered down DLNA.

whats the unique twist? the phone might actually work this time around? or will Apple actually do something revolutionary rather than talk about doing it and never delivering? either of those scenarios would be unique for them

Couldn’t someone with NFC tap your phone while you momentarily walk away from it and steal your info? It seems more “open” than being on an open WiFi… or am I misunderstanding something?

NFC is an idea that only looks great to those who think paying even more to their cell company / bank is a great idea.  To everyone else its a boring gadget
