Verizon stores closing at 4PM on Sunday, but for what?

We’ve independently confirmed that all some Verizon Wireless stores will be closing at 4PM this coming Sunday.You might ask why, and we’d love to tell you, but we aren’t sure. Apparently no one under director level status has been informed why, and every employee in the company is required to be present at one of the many meetings across the country. We’ve been told closing early on a Sunday is “unheard of” and that this is either for a huge product launch (new DROID?), or something not so good, like massive layoffs. But that last part is obviously not confirmed and is just communicated to us as guesses.

Update: After digging a little deeper, we’ve heard that actually only select stores might be closing early, and there’s really nothing behind it. Carry on…

    they already laid off a bunch of employees in the great plains regions. but it’s not “unheard of” by any stretch of the imagination. stores have closed early on sundays prior to big launches, major events(alltel mergers), as well as just in general issues with the company.

    it sounds like the launch of the droid x. when i worked there and the bb storm came out i had to go in early on a Sunday i think to set up fixtures for it. it could also be a web conference that they have where they get trained on the phone while some one explains how it works. had to do that for the netbooks. so its most likely a launch i don’t think vzw is laying any one off.

    This isn’t news worthy at all…someone just mistook a sign dated for July 4th for this Sunday coming up…I work for Verizon and there isn’t anything planned for Sunday..not even a Droid X…BGR needs to be a little bit more selective with when it come to their informants make sure they aren’t illiterate first..

    I work for VZW, my schedule still shows a regular day for June 27th. So uh, what makes this important enough to post anyway?

      work at vzw too my schedule says 4 pm meeting for every one in my store… it sucks that people tip off BGR so fast wish we knew things before people on the outside know. i think its just a meeting about LTE Droid X and company numbers …. kick off meetings are done much bigger and at like 5 am nothing that we dont already know… once we find out it would be nice if people kept it to themselves but im sure some one will leak it to BGR before the end of the meeting…. pretty sad huh

    Most likely nothing this Sunday. This is probably a referrence to new holiday hours. VZW stores will only be open from 11-3 or 11-4 on the 4th of July.

    Everything looks kosher. There’s no iPhone or iPad and my schedule is the same. If it was ANYTHING important, I would be called in to work, and as of right now, I have Sunday off.

    I would take this with a grain of salt and I completely agree with this statement: “BGR needs to be a little bit more selective with when it come to their informants make sure they aren’t illiterate first..”

    I work for VZW. we DO have a kickoff meeting every quarter. basically its big wigs showing us PowerPoint presentations about where we are at and where we want to go. Generally we are not told of any big announcements because in seconds 50 people would be secretly on their phones tipping off the bgr.

    we do have a meeting this Sunday and we are closing a half hour early for it. I don’t think it will be any big deal and probably they will tell us more about droidx and that’s probably it.

    I am a Retail Sales Manager for a VZW store. We have never adjusted our hours. VZW has no problem making a meeting before or after business hours. They would never inconvenience our customers in such a way. HOWEVER, there is a major announcement taking place this friday. And the rumor mill is working, but nothing has been confirmed yet. I am thinking some sort of rebranding in our marketing strategy. (its quite tired and boring). This is pure speculation, but I am sure it will leak on here before the meeting

    I can confirm that our district at least in closing at 4PM on Sunday, and that is NOT July 4. It will probably deal with 4G announcements and more info on the Droid X. Giv BGR some credit guys, they’re right on this one.
