Apple iPad 3G gets native SMS app

ipad-sms-jailbreak

Sick of Apple iPad news yet? Here’s one more we couldn’t resist… It’s not a secret that both the regular Wi-Fi iPad and now iPad Wi-Fi + 3G are jailbroken, but what’s really interesting is that the world-famous iPhone Dev Team has managed to get the native SMS application from the iPhone working on the iPad. Oh, it’s viciously transplanted for now, but be honest, if they can get this going properly, who wouldn’t want an SMS app on their new iPad? Whether you can actually send or receive messages on AT&T in general is another story. Video is after the jump!

I think you misunderstood, there is no app. It just uses AT commands. Its more of a hack that uses the baseband.
And the AT&T ipad account doesnt allow for texts, but a regular at&t sim thats cut down should work without a problem.

Next Generation of Mobile devices will be Peer-To-Peer Wireless links from your Smartphones to a large display screen (6 – 7 inches) console to view streaming contents such as movies, Internet and GPS maps. Take the Console with you when you need it or leave it home or office when not needed. Play Multiplayer Games on the Console using smartphone phones as controllers.

    1. You sound like a spambot
    2. I totally do not want a phone with a 6-7 inch screen in my pocket. If anything it won’t fit. By your means everybody will be using an Eee PC as a phone.

The large 6 -7 inch console is a device that interface with the smartphones to provide a larger screen. The console can also be a larger phone. Two versions of the console.

why would i need that? the EVO has HDMI out. why would i care about a 6 in screen when i got a 52 inch plasma? What your talking about seems like something only you want.

you can not take a 52 inch TV to the park or burger king or travel with it. The portable console allows you to have a larger screen device on the go.

[rolls eyes] Must be a slow news day.

    iPad = YAWN

I don’t understand why everyone bashes At&t all the time. It worked great when I had an iPhone and it works just as well now on my BlackBerry. The iPhone on the other hand needed to be replaced every three months because of hardware problems. I have never had a problem in New York, Jersey, or Maryland.

  • blah

the real trick would be to reply to the sms. does the ipad3g have a phone number?

    • raypatt

actually, they do assign you a cell number when you sign up for 3G service. I got an email with 1 for my area code.

    What’s next, the cellphone app?

  • Pythagoras

I was laughing at all these posts until some guy asked why everyone bashes ATT — bro, you have no idea. They have a million ways to bait and trap, change offers, add charges for things you didn’t even know existed.

AT&T is far worse than any gang or mafia because there is nothing you can do about it!

BGR, who the hell would be stupid enough to want sms on a tablet? sms is for cellphones, because you want to be quickly and conveniently notified of messages.
If someone messages me while the pad is in my bag or I’m not around it, then the feature is completely useless. Might as well write me an e-mail.

Honestly BGR, use your brain before you post ridiculous garbage like this.

    • William Jr. Quilatan

      Ms. Len,

In other parts of the world who uses prepaid data package service with call and text able sims would benefit for ipad users having integrated sms on ipad 3g. As one of them, we subscribe data package thru sms so we don’t need anymore to transfer the sim to a cellphone just to register and suscribe for data package and at the same time we can easily know our credits thru sms.
For me i need the sms function in ipad for convenience……

  • Robb Knie

Fantastic now i can be told to bring home the milk on multiple devices.

  • Tdot34

Whats the point…. isn’t this what your cellphone is for?

  • RunJDHP

Everybody just calm down. Whats with everyone being so hostile? Look At&t does suck and there are several reasons why they do. The number one problem i have with them is they have been riding apple for so long they forgot to look at the rest of their products and notice they dont have many worth selling. They always come late with whats already hot. Like Android. Remember when people were buying Palm Centros and then boom At$t gets them so late most people had already upgrade to something else. The network has holes in it yes, but the big issue is lack of product and then charging you ridiculous prices for what we all consider crap. The ipad is awesome, buy one or not they are cool and everybody is trying to make a “tablet” suddenly… im out.

If you want to send an sms to anyone on a cell phone, send an email to the sms email gateway for the provider anywhere in the world.
    http://www.mutube.com/projects/open-email-to-sms/gateway-list/

Each of the devices can generally reply and it will route back to your email address.

Why would I want a hack, or need to jailbreak, or choose to use a cut down SIM?

  • http://www.msg91.com/ sam@Bulk Sms

    Hi,
Thanks for giving that link 4Geo ,i will definitely follow that link.It will be useful for me.

  • Neil

Just install asupermms, an iPhone app which does native SMS and mms. Works on my iPad just as well.

    • http://None Localhost

How to run asupermms on english?

  • LGgeek

Basically I want the iPad to be a big iphone. No ghetto blaster to the ear but would make “face time” really nice.
