HTC HD2 now available from T-Mobile

Man do we kind of feel bad for T-Mobile this week. Not only did they show up to CTIA with nothing but a crappy netbook, but today they start selling the HD2, a smartphone most people have already forgotten about thanks to the EVO 4G. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement — tons of people have been waiting for this phone for almost six months and no doubt a few die-hards are going to be queued up outside some T-Mobile shops to be first. But do you think they’re going to be all smiles this summer when things like the EVO 4G and fourth-gen iPhone are on sale and they’re 19,999 pennies lighter and still have over a year and a half to go on contract? Nope.

so will the Unlocked HD2 work on AT&T’s 3G network?

    • sikkboy

      Only on EDGE….

Next time how about just posting the news and leave your hater opinions to your self…

    • glass

It would be good to remind yourself from time to time that this is a blog, not a straight-up news site, and as such they are free to include as much or as little editorial/opinions in their posts as they want.

And you, in turn, are free to look elsewhere for your vanilla-flavored tech news.

      • Maybe…not

        glass is right.

To expect credible news from blogs is incredibly ignorant. I’ve accepted a long time ago that tech blogs is to journalism what a coloring book is to journalism. Get your rumors for the day and go and don’t think anymore of it.

However, I would say that if a blog writer writes some idiotic shit like T-mo customers aren’t going to buy a new phone because of something Sprint only announced… its just plain dumb and the readers are going to tell him so.

Personally I would never go to sprint no matter what phone they had, second of all i could give a left nut about the iphone in any version they bring.

  • Thomas

    Just got this phone.

It kicks ass. I thought I’d be worried about the apps part but seriously it has all I need preloaded.

Other than email, web or text, I mainly use Facebook and Slacker. It has both.

The web browser is excellent and the sense UI makes WinMo both usable and beautiful. Never thought I’d say that about WinMo but I’m sure the kickass processor and built in memory help.

I am pretty confident that by the time the EVO is ready for launch there will be much better choices now that the competition will get more fierce. I also believe that T-Mobile will no doubt get the hottest devices by years end with their super fast HSPA + network due to more global support.

I can’t see myself ever going back to Sprint. I know their reps come around these parts like they’re the best thing around but numbers don’t lie. People truly do not like Sprint as a whole and we each have our personal reasons why. It’s not just about the network.

  • Gina D

    Totally agree Thomas.

Phone geeks will praise one carrier for having a stacked phone today then curse them when another carrier gets a really stacked phone.

    It’s stupid really.

As of today March 24th, the HD2 is probably among the best phones around whether or not you like WinMo.

If you like it, buy it today. If you’re broke and can only afford to buy one phone every 2 years, then wait but don’t bitch 2 months later when the new iPhone comes out.

As a former Sprint employee and user, I can tell you that the honeymoon will end really soon and then you’ll be kicking yourself when you want to go back to a HSPA provider who will have many many more high end devices for you to play with.

    The cycle never ends.

Sprint consistently rates at the bottom of customer satisfaction polls and there is a reason for that.

I don’t think even the hottest phone will get them very far. People will run and churn before their 30 days are up.

Sprint has the hardest time doing simple tasks like getting the internet services provisioned. And they’re picture mail service sucks balls.

4.3″ 800×480 1GHz thin, bright screen…Yikes…How’s the browser? Mobile IE and Opera Mini are pre-loaded?

    • mingkee

PIE and Opera 9.5 are loaded.
You can get Opera 10 if you want.

I think we all know (or certainly we should know) the next iphone won’t be much different than the current 3Gs….. look at their last iteration, the 3Gs – minor upgrade in processor and they added video (poor quality video mind you) Apple doesn’t want the coolest and best device available, they just want to sell a bazillion mid range devices – they will rely on the apps to pull them along. Also, their focus is clearly and solely on iPad right now. There is absolutely no way the specs on the new iPhone will be even close to the specs of the EVO 4G, that is not their game plan. Yes, Apple came out with a revolutionary device, but it will be up to others to take it to the next level (and I don’t mean Google) – and clearly HTC is that company. The EVO 4G is just awesome, talk about throw’in it down!!
Personally I am in deep lust for this EVO 4G – even though I will have to give up my iphone. Bring it.

    • Samsung

It doesn’t matter if Apple releases an EDGE only next generation iPhone this year….. people will flock to it….. the exact opposite is true with Sprint… people run from them.

But I guess people have to experience pain before they will believe you.

  • MobileGuru

I was actually thinking about this b4 the Evo but tmo service is not too great. Doesn’t outweigh the benefits of getting the EVo. Sorry T-Mobile.(You Guys still rock thu!)

    • Benjamin

Well that’s a dumb comment especially for a guy who calls himself MobileGuru.

“T-Mobile service isn’t that great….” Are you talking about your mom’s house in the basement? Seriously.

      • Maybe…not

NO, he’s talking about those complaints he read online from 5 years ago, or the 2 complaints from the same person a year ago. Definitely couldn’t be from personal experience seeing as they aren’t on T-mobile.

But not trying to insult Guru… he’s actually one of the few people that BGR were referring to in their blog. A person who may switch carriers for the latest and greatest phones… those are the people that are already holding off on everything because Sprint announced 4G. What BGR got wrong was thinking these people are a majority, enough to hurt sales of current handsets.

      • MobileGuru

i am talking from personal expierence as i had both for a couple months. Not a dumb comment. Maybe it varies from person to person. But my experience with tmobile last year was fine not great. A dropped call in manhatttan wouldnt be called “great” Look at the coverage look at the towers. For those of you who have tmo dunt take something as an insult so easily.

      • MobileGuru

I also never switched carriers been with sprint for 5 years. I had tmobile for a couple of months while holding a phone for a friend overseas. I woukld not be talking about something i kno not of w/o having 1st hand expierence.

  • bass

Bogo @ my local tmobile dealer. Now all I have to do is convince my wife. That’s right two of these phones for $199.99.

  • http://www.dejavuinsider.blogspot.com Dave

So would it be noteworthy to mention that the HD2 is sold out nation wide…

  • burbsdealer

Sold out of the HD2 in 3 hours in my store. Including a back order of 20 more coming in friday. I guess people don’t care about sprint or at&t because they are jumping ship for this phone. One customer no lie cried when he saw transformer on hd in his phone. Kinda weird tho. So to all the hate about HD2 not getting love because of the new evo phone. I guess the public didn’t get that memo. Because they are buying this phone in masses. Sold out nation wide.

  • Bigg

Man F sprint and their CDMA sh!t, GSM FTW. Every quarter I read the news and sprint is losing tons of subscriber, you got to wonder why. Even when they have dirt cheap plan and ppl still flee. What does that tell you? I have both the N1 and HD2, love it, Tmobile or not, I would never be on a CDMA carrier, it’s either Att or Tmobile and so far Tmobile working out great for me. Oh btw, sprint partner palm isnt doing well either. Point and laugh lol

  • Madness

HSPA+ will be “three times faster” than Sprint’s 4G and cover more people this year (2010).

  • ebatr8

pc mag tested 4g vs hspa+ with a non hspa+ webstick and due to even non hspa+ units benefit it actually beat 4g speeds so sprint can suck my left nut a superphone will not save them iphone 4g will be better vzws line up n superior customer service will beat them n tmobiles hspa+ deploymentn upcoming handsets will keep them up to par even with low prices they still lose 6+ million customers rather be with anyone else but them evo 4g needs to move somewhere better cuz its a sick phone n the hd2 is beast i love my 3gs will stick as back up for now n as an ipod

  • Art

    OBSOLETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVO!!

  • JO23PH

does anybody know how to change the hd2dfrom 3g to EDGE? need to save on some battery life when in not usin it

  • http://BBYM K9

Have worked for BBYM for a while now, so that includes all 3 major carrirers; Verizon, AT&T, Sprint. T-Mobile got screwed somehow, but honestly folks the EVO isn’t scheduled for release til the summer. What makes you think other 4G handsets won’t be either? Verizon and AT&T have already announced a vast amount of coverage for there 4G/LTE/HSPA deployment. iPhone 4G will dominate as always! Verizon customers will cry and nag as usual! Sprint’s customer loyalty will continue dropping! And T-Mobile will continue to have the best hardware on the least reliable network! Just how the cookie crumbles.

Bing.com gives 35% bing cashback right now. I’ve ordered 1 thru the same. My friend got 30% cashback when 3GS was released, but it took 1 month to get the cashback. Steps to get HTC HD2 with Bing.com 35% cashback: http://jinishans.blogspot.com/2010/03/htc-hd2-from-t-mobile- get-bingcom-35.html

  • blyster

The problem with the Evo4G is that you have to use it on Sprint… and I’d rather be punched repeatedly in the face than have service with them… which, ironically, is what I’m told their service feels like…

  • luis

WILL the hd2 come out on att?
