After revealing the name of the next iPhone last Friday, 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman has returned with a new report detailing some of the features of the undersized phone which is expected to make its debut this spring.

According to Gurman, there are multiple prototypes of the iPhone 5se currently under consideration, including some with A8/M8 chips and others with the latest A9/M9 chips. Sources are saying that the final version of the device is likely to include the A9 and M9 chips, which are also currently featured in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Not only will this keep the iPhone 5se within a generation of the iPhone 7 when it comes to processing power, but it also allows Apple to implement always-on Siri functionality, bringing “Hey Siri” to a whole new group of consumers.
Gurman also believes that the iPhone 5se will completely replace the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the 2016 fall lineup, which would include the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Finally, the report indicates that the iPhone 5se will have an internal storage capacity boost over the iPhone 5s. Although the cheaper model is still expected to feature 16GB of storage, Apple higher capacity model could double from 32GB to 64GB, again bringing the three-year-old phone up to speed with the new generation.
Once the iPhone 5se launches, it should take the place of the iPhone 5s, including its current price point. We should learn more about the 4-inch smartphone when Apple unveils it during the week of March 14th.
