Apple on Monday released a brand new version of its upcoming iOS 10 software to developers. iOS 10 beta 4 is the most recent in a string of releases as Apple refines its next-generation mobile operating system in preparation for its public release in September. Some of Apple’s beta software is more stable than other software, but iOS 10 betas have been among the most stable Apple has ever released right out of the gate. Stability doesn’t necessarily mean that iOS 10 is ready for primetime though, and Apple continues to add new features and refine existing ones.
So what’s new in iOS 10 beta 4?

First things first: if you’re running an earlier iOS 10 beta it’s time to update your iPhone or iPad. The easiest way to do it is simply to open the Settings app and go to General > Software Update. The latest iOS 10 beta will then be downloaded and installed on your phone, and you’ll never even have to connect to a computer.
Of note, you don’t even need a developer account to install iOS 10 beta 4. Simply follow the instructions in this post and you’ll be able to run iOS 10 beta 4 on your iPhone or iPad without paying Apple’s annual $99 developer account fee.
With that out of the way, let’s take a look at everything new in iOS 10 beta 4. Sadly, Apple still hasn’t enabled the sleek new dark mode feature we all know is hiding deep within the iOS 10 betas, but there are still some other cool features that have been tossed onto the pile in iOS 10 beta 4. The most notable among them is the addition of more than 100 new emoji that include female athletes, a water pistol, a gay pride flag and plenty more. Here is Apple’s quick note on the new emoji:
More than one hundred new and redesigned emoji characters will be available to iPhone and iPad users this Fall with iOS 10. This exciting update brings more gender options to existing characters, including new female athletes and professionals, adds beautiful redesigns of popular emoji, a new rainbow flag and more family options.
Apple is working closely with the Unicode Consortium to ensure that popular emoji characters reflect the diversity of people everywhere.
