On Monday, Twitter and CBS News announced via a press release that they would be partnering in order to stream live coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions on Twitter later this month.

“Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening in politics and to have a discussion about it,” said Anthony Noto, Twitter’s CFO. “By bringing the live discussion of the Republican and Democratic national conventions together with CBSN’s live video stream of the proceedings, we believe we’re giving people around the world the best way to experience democracy in action.”
The press release also notes that along with video, the coverage will be “enhanced” with live Tweets pertaining to the event throughout the day.
As it continues to struggle to find sources of revenue, Twitter has become increasingly aggressive when it comes to bringing major events to its platform. Earlier this year, Twitter paid for the rights to stream Thursday Night Football games once the NFL season kicks off later this year.
“This is about transforming the fan experience with football. People watch NFL games with Twitter today,” Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said at the time. “Now they’ll be able to watch right on Twitter Thursday nights.”
As for the conventions, the RNC will run from July 18th to July 21st while the DNC is scheduled to take place from July 25th to July 28th. Although both are worth keeping track of, the Republican’s convention is garnering far more interest, especially as Trump repeatedly fails to win over Republican officials.
