T-Mobile has been locked in a heated battle with AT&T for years, but now that the once-struggling carrier finally has a foothold in the market, it might be time to take on No. 1. CNET reports that T-Mobile will be adding 4G LTE to its 2G network this year as it prepares to increase its coverage even further with the recently purchased wireless spectrum from Verizon.

In an interesting twist, the wireless carrier has announced it will also be pursuing legal action against Verizon, which regularly bashes its competition in advertisements with colorful coverage maps of the United States. Unsurprisingly, Verizon’s reach trounces T-Mobile’s in these ads, but irascible T-Mobile CEO John Legere isn’t pleased with the representation.

“Verizon’s ink blots massively understate our coverage and don’t begin to represent the actual customer experience on T-Mobile’s network,” said Legere.

T-Mobile has been on the short end of the stick in recent performance tests, but 2014 could be a banner year for the carrier as its coverage and speed increases at a faster rate than ever before. Legere knows how to talk a big game — now is the time for results.
