There are a lot of things that can be said about Tesla. Elon Musk’s all-electric car company is in fact changing the world, having been solely responsible for the accelerated pace at which electric cars are proliferating. Tesla is also forcing the hand of other automakers, which have begun to devote far more resources to electric vehicles since Tesla arrived on the scene.
While Telsa’s sporty Model S sedan is a game-changer that also offers lightning-fast acceleration and phenomenal handling, there’s one area where Tesla doesn’t wear the crown. Hold onto your hats, because you’re about to meet the fastest electric car in the world.

You’ve almost certainly never heard of an electric car company called Genovation, but it’s a name you won’t soon forget after watching the video below. The company describes itself as “the green car company,” though Genovation is much more than that. The company modifies cars with all-electric drivetrains, and it’s not just about making them more eco-friendly — it’s about tearing up the race track.
The company has a number of accomplishments under its belt, but as Engadget noted this past weekend, Genovation now has its crown jewel: The record for fastest street legal all-electric car.
Genovation’s GXE, which is based on a 2006 Z06 Corvette, features an electric motor that cranks out 700-hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. The car has a range of about 130 miles per charge, but that’s certainly not the most notable thing about it. During a run at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds/Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida on February 23rd, the GXE hit a top speed of 186.8 MPH.
That insane pace was well ahead of the prior record of 177 MPH, and you can see the record-setting run in the video embedded below.
