LG often produces terrific devices but I don’t think I’ve ever used the term “exciting” to describe them. However, some intriguing new rumors about the LG G5 do offer us a little something to get excited about. Via 9to5Google, a report from CNET Korea this week claimed that the LG G5 will have a battery that can be removed simply by taking out the detachable bottom edge of the phone, as you can see in the concept render below.

DON’T MISS: This looks like the ultimate iPhone 6s case

This would make taking out the battery easier than it is with most smartphones that have replaceable batteries as you’ll no longer have to remove the device’s back panel. The device has two buttons on each side that you have to press simultaneously to get the detachable battery to release. This makes it harder to accidentally make the battery pop out of the device while you’re carrying it. The report also says that the G5 will have a metal unibody design, which would be a first for an LG flagship phone.

All the same, I’m going to put this new information firmly in the “rumor” category for now. We’ll know soon enough what LG has planned when it will likely unveil the G5 at next month’s Mobile World Congress.
