We’re getting a clearer picture about Apple’s plans for building larger iPhones in the future thanks to a new report out of China. According to insiders that talked with C Technology, the company is already testing an iPhone 6 prototype with a 4.9-inch display. The report goes on to say that the iPhone 5C’s successor will also get a screen bump although it’s not clear whether its display will also measure 4.9 inches or not. However, it would make sense for Apple to stick to a single display type on iPhone “phablets” both from a manufacturing perspective and also to avoid fragmentation when it comes to app design. Aside from a bigger screen, other details about the iPhone 6 have not been given.
This isn’t the first report claiming that Apple is working on bigger iPhones. Only a few days ago, a Bloomberg story said that Apple will launch two completely redesigned iPhones next year, with displays measuring between 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. The report echoed a Wall Street Journal story from September, which said that Apple is testing an iPhones with displays of up to 6 inches. However, a note to investors from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo denied that the iPhone 6 will feature a 6-inch display, saying that the new iPhone will likely measure between 4.5 inches and 5 inches.
In addition to bigger iPhones, the company is rumored to also work on bigger iPads, with a 12.9-inch iPad said to launch at some point early next year.
