The Apple Store is down, though it looks like 9to5Mac has spoiled the surprise. According to the Apple blog, here are the leaked specifications for the new Apple products launching this week:

  • Mac mini Base model: 2.3GHz CPU with 2GB of RAM, and 500GB of storage
  • Mac mini: 2.5GHz CPU with 4GB of RAM, and, 500GB of storage
  • Mac mini server: 2.0GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and two 500GB hard drives
  • MacBook Air 11″: Base model: 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage
  • MacBook Air 11″: 1.6GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage
  • MacBook Air 11″: Built to order model: 1.8GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage

The Mac minis are reported to run new Intel Sand Bridge chips, while the MacBook Airs run Intel’s Core i5 and i7 processors. Launching alongside the new MacBook Airs and Mac minis are a new Apple display, though the only difference seems to be the name, rebranded as the Apple Thunderbolt Display, and the ability to have a VESA-compatible mount for them. We’ll see in only a couple hours, and these new models could go on sale as early as today.

Ugh. 2GB RAM on the lowest spec? Has Apple even tried running Lion on these machines?

I know it “can” run on 2GB but considering how difficult it is to upgrade memory on the Air then its a shame because a lot of people will buy the base model at places like Best Buy where you cant custom configure it, and end up with a less than optimal experience.

Alot of these people will only be browsing and uploading photos onto thier MBA though and will prob never use Mission Control or Spaces.

And it seems like a HUGE waste of money to buy the lowest grade. Like the people who bought the smallest size storage of iPad/iPod etc, might as well fork over the extra cash for a lot more storage.

But more importantly…. backlit kb or no backlit kb?

why do you need to see the keyboard when you write on it ?

      • sirpaul

It’s handy while you are on a computer an night…I think the majority of us can touch type without looking at the keyboard, but a bit of light is still needed to quickly orient yourself or find keys that are not used very often. It’s also handy for gaming in the dark.

Yes, once I start typing I’m all set, but I always look down when I start.

wish they would use a light like thinkpads, much more useful

I dunno…  maybe on flights, where the laptop is usually open in an acute angle.  But I love my keys lit just right in my lap even in my darkened office as I sit (it’s too hot in MN to turn on the lights ;-{ ) right now.  The down beam never was that impressive for usage outside of a crowded airplane

I got my fingers crossed and I am praying they don’t add stupid useless features like that.

      Just adds to the price.

I guess if you want a 10″ tablet screen over a desktop with a 27″ screen it’s your choice. Not sure how you would run desktop apps your way though.

2GB and 64 GB SSD….two bad rumors killed in one shot.

as noted, Ipad 2.5 (runs safari, itunes, pages, numbers and keynote with an attached keypad;-) iCloud negates the 64gb, and 2GB, well, let’s just say I’ve yet to see anyone using an <17" computer to do 3D graphic rendering, who didn't have a monster Mac Pro, back at the home base.

If the price of this is 999. it's the MacBook Killer.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, BidsOut .com

Shit man, if this is the same boss all you retard spam bots are talking about, your boss has a ton of TVs by now! BGR, can you filter the posts that have the same text as above? Getting tired of these ads.
