Google announces Android @ Home

Breaking

Google announced on Tuesday a new feature of the Android operating system called Android @ Home. The framework and associated functions transform an Android device into a home automation controller that connects and directs all of the devices and appliances in the user’s home. Android @ Home framework can be used to control gaming consoles, lighting, appliances, irrigations systems and anything else developers can envision. Google also announced project tungsten as part of the Android @ Home product, which consists of a hub that runs the Android OS and the Android @ Home framework. Among the functions of a Tungsten hub, as shown off on stage at Google I/O 2011, is the ability to stream music directly from Music Beta by Google to any supported home audio device. Android @ Home is completely open and developing with the framework requires no fees and no registration.

LOL!! GOOGLE and DROID are knocking it out of the park today!! This totally kills apples failed attempts at similar ventures. Apple will probably come up with something stupid that is just a knockoff and call it airplay or something stupid. DROID FTW!!

      Android. Android.

We all know who’s the stupid one here Norman.

    • Anonymous

Yes, this totally kills “Apples failed attempts,” because, clearly, we’ve seen how successful androids project is BEING THAT THEY JUST ANNOUNCED IT. I also enjoy how you state that Apple has already “failed with similar ventures,” yet they are going to KNOCKOFF Androids idea. Your post is stupidity personified

I’ve witnessed Norm’s trolling on practically every BGR post, it doesn’t make me hate him any less for it.

Joe, if you’ve got hate, that’s a personal problem. Please don’t share your personal problems here in public.

Who knocks off who now retard.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

Hahahahaha…. thisis like Mad Magazine, without it being so clear as black vs white. Troll vs Troll!

…you do realize that the iPhone is a knockoff of the LG Prada, HTC Wallaby and is made by Samsung… right? And the iPad is a knockoff of HP, Gateway and Dell XP Tablet PCs from like.. 2004… right? I mean, you took the time and effort to copy and paste together 3 whole posts…. and failed miserably. Hahaha… when trolls can’t even troll properly, it’s a sad day under the bridge…

      • Anonymous

You’re wrong just like your fellow lagdroid boys. The lg prada and the iPhone are familiar in what way. Please tell me I can’t wait. Then I can correct you on how wrong you are. And the iPad isnt knocking off nothing and you know it. The hp and Dell tablet PC’s are totally different then a iPad.

      • Homer

Lol, so your theory is that anything with a touchscreen ripped off Apple? Why don’t you add Garmins and TomToms to that list too while you are at it.

      • Anonymous

No the theory is that before the iPhone, mobile phones – even smart phones – were no where near what they are today. The iPhone revolutionized it, and other companies followed suit; even Google’s “Google Phone” was going to be a RIM-knockoff before the iPhone came out. The same thing happened with the iPad.

If you argue and say that competing products aren’t knockoffs, then you can’t rightly turn around and say that a company releasing a similar service (like cloud music or home hub) is a knockoff, especially when said company (Apple) has clearly been working on and laying the ground work for years.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

Negative… the Android pre-Google was shown in the form of a blackberry curve model, touch screen and flip phone… Google refined it. iPhone didn’t do anything other than advertise simplicity well. It isn’t the first at anything. Just like the Macintosh wasn’t the first PC, it just had a good commercial…. the iPhone is the same.

      • http://foxpacific.myopenid.com/ James Pakele

Just another occasion of someone coming from behind and owning the race… They still made from the first go round with Microsoft…

      • Anonymous

You’re just as dumb. Why is it so hard for you people to realize what Apple has done here. Not to hard to figure out pretty common sense.

      • Anonymous

@7c0cc0fac3083d0d187aad15ce368ae3:disqus Google refined it with what? The late 2008 HTC Dream aka G1. Ya that worked and looked nothing like the mid 2007 iphone you are correct. Why is it so hard to see that Apple REDEFINED they way smartphones and tablets are made and used today. It’s true and not to hard to see.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

@macboy15 — if you really think apple did anything new, then you aren’t just a troll…. You’re a moron. I’ll say it again. There’s nothing done there that wasn’t ripped off from lg prada or the htc wallaby… Using microsofts multi touch technologies. If you need someone to explain why… Then you don’t deserve to post anything on tech websites. Chances are the “15″ in your name signifies your age… So you just don’t know any better yet. Apple products suck…. They’re just good salesmen. And you are an easy sale. It’s okay… Some day you’ll grow out of your naivite.

      • http://twitter.com/noxtics noxtics

actually you’re wrong about tablets …pencept created the first pen computer and contemporary tablets were created by microsoft.

despite what you think apple didn’t create everything and they have done their fair share of ripping off ideas.

remember long ago when both microsoft and apple ripped off xerox’s idea for a mouse and gui?

    • http://foxpacific.myopenid.com/ James Pakele

Google is absolutely killing it today… man I’m so glad they didn’t come with something lame like it’s thinner, lighter, and has a magical cover sprinkled with fairy dust…

  • http://twitter.com/adammacdotcom Adam MacDonald

Wonderful.. another post about Google.. zzzzzz

    • http://twitter.com/villageorge George Jones

google are making numerous announcements. what were you expecting?

    • http://profiles.google.com/sagar.sangani Sagar Sangani

Oh, I am sorry to hear that. If you didn’t know, BGR was providing live coverage of the I/O. The fact that these are important headlines, they’re up on the front page. If you don’t like them, simply stop coming to the website or don’t comment.

    • Anonymous

Adam, you are an idiot, that is all.

    • Homer

At least it’s not another post about a damn white iPhone rumor that NOBODY cares about…

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JNKVTT7PJMXPYP2GVCIERBQQCU Andrew

The thing is that many people to care about iPhone rumors. And I agree they are overkill but for some reason people care about everything Apple, especially iPhone.

  • YourMom

I can see Steve Jobs, sitting in Cupertino, eating a gallon of cookie dough ice cream, screaming and sobbing uncontrollably.

Android hit a grand slam so far.

    • Anonymous

…while owning the second richest company in the World? Really? Try again.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JNKVTT7PJMXPYP2GVCIERBQQCU Andrew

Really? Sobbing over what? I wonder how many people that don’t visit sites like this will even know this exists. Everyone still doesn’t know what the hell Google TV is. And with the support, uh lack of support it’s getting I’m not sure even Google knows what it is.

    • Anonymous

Well, it kind of depends on the implementation. It’s easy to make a presentation and wow people with razzle dazzle. How’s the GoogleTV working out? They also failed to get the studios/networks on board with that.

I mean, if you think a presentation equals a “grand slam”, then go post about it on Ping.

    Android@Home + Tasker app = insanity!

Get home @ 6pm. Lights turn on , tv turns on to channel of your choice or starts a pre-recorded show you recorded earlier. etc, etc

    I love it.

Swing-and-a-miss. It should be called “Android @ Your Mother’s Basement” since that’s where most Android users live anyway.

    • Bringit

From a marketing perspective (no pun intended, Perspectively) – that makes sense.

      • KCRic

Oh look, two douches squirting in each other mouths.

        Today was a good day…

      • Anonymous

That’s not the only thing they’re doing; seems to me that “those two” blow and ride each other as well and, then, they ‘Denyit’!

      • Bringit

Very creative how you and your ball sucking friend PAPI resort to the same cum in mouth and blow job comments. Almost as creative as the almost daily new Anddrrooiid phones.

You’re using puns now? That is awesome! You are doing great big guy!

      • Bringit

Thanks pal. Sorry if it was too many words for you to read, I’ll try and cut down on that.

  • Manningcontrol

    70k to automate. A home

  • Mick

So to skip all the trolling and go to a serious question…. Is this going to run insteon and zwave projects full time like Mr House or HomeSeer? Or is it just an interface to occasionally hop on and control devices

  • Anonymous

Oh wow, no way man that is just WAY too cool. Wow.

I am always Leery about home automation systems… especially if they are not built on a stable embedded OS. I am ok with my phone being a bit buggy, but do i really want my home appliances to be quirky and need occasional reboots?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JNKVTT7PJMXPYP2GVCIERBQQCU Andrew

Sounds good but I don’t need google knowing that much more about me. Knowing everything I do on my phone is enough. Thanks. Same thing for Apple and anyone else who wants to bum rush our lives with their products and services.

  • Joshdestardi

Wait, so this is saying what I’ve said all along, that Android will be embedded in everything from toasters, to lamps, to washing machines?

    Yup.

U can pick one samsung washer with io/s, or you can pick an LG, samsung, ge, etc washer.

Yea I wonder who will win that war psssst, it’s not Apple.

  • Anonymous

so sick of Android already. I hope the whole platform eventually takes a giant shit.

  • PrivacyAnyOne?

Does this mean Google will track/log/record and sell everything you do at home? They already record/sell everything you do on the interest and on your android phone.

  • RvB

I guess none of them were born yet when Microsoft had a product called “Microsoft @ home”?

  • heyhey

once again…..yet another example of how google introduces something new before improving what users are legitimately complaining about….howcome we have not heard anything CONCRETE about fragmentation? where are the MUCH NEEDED UI improvements? where is UI hardware accel? better video support? any new music player native app for android 3.1? NO, no, no and NO! but hey guys, dont be sad and dont feel bad because here’s music beta by invite only and here’s android@home beta…. forget about hardware accel and UI tweaks …u guys dont really need that nonsense….focus on the future of NFC and android@home……
