Windows Phone 7 launches in the U.S.

mobile

Microsoft fans, start your engines. It’s been a long time coming but today it’s finally here… Windows Phone 7 handsets are now available for your purchasing pleasure in the U.S. Microsoft launched its new mobile OS last month in Europe and we’ve had to sit and wait impatiently as our friends across the pond dangled their Windows wear in our faces. Well, not any more — the HTC Surround, Samsung Focus and HTC HD7 are already available for purchase and the Dell Venue Pro is rumored to drop later today. The LG Quantum is also available for pre-order from AT&T starting today. Expect to pay $199.99 for any of the aforementioned Windows Phones, though better deals are available through the likes of Amazon.com, as is often the case.

Looks like all the rumors about the Dell Venue Pro being out today were false. At least so far.

Oh wait… BGR is saying ‘later today’… ok… we’ll see. Not a knock against BGR or any sites btw, more about Dell and the lack of info from them.

poor winmo. way to try & make a huge release w/o copy+paste & w/o ability to set a custom ringtone. pretty sad if you ask me.

what this comment would have looked like in 2007–

“poor apple. way to try & make a huge release w/o 3g, copy paste, non-native apps, &w/o ability to even set a custom wallpaper. pretty sad if you ask me.”

      • John

        lol. how true that is…

windows 7 is actually pretty good….your an idiot for downplaying because of a small feature like copy/paste

    • Bringit

copy/paste may not be sexy like fart apps or facetime – however, it’s pretty important to many smartphone users. And pretty basic that it should be included in 2010.

        Agreed.

But what then are you going to complain about once it’s added in January?

      • F4denz

yeah I mean it is going to take MS like 7 weeks to get it included, and it took apple how many years? Really, I might use it once or twice a week and most people I know with smartphones don’t use it at all.

Here’s a funny story: Because old WinMo6.5 is actually built to work w/ a stylus, its a pain in the ass to use copy and paste on an HD2 w/ HTC Sense… yet, amazingly, I get by or find work-arounds, even on Excel. Hmm… perhaps the lack of copy and paste really only affects those who are too dumb to problem-solve…. hmmmmm….

      “your an idiot” – Fuzzya1418

      Epic fail.

    “FREE”
the real reason people “want” something that is for free..and the reason i want one… I don’t care which one..it is FREEEEEEEEEE.
Now if it were a galaxy tab or the Dell slate..those I am actually considering buying…What I want is a real camera with a real 6+ inch screen that can also make a phone call.
So if i do “win” a FREE Window7 phone I’ll use it…maybe…until the makers catch up with what is really gonna be a big deal…getting to carry a REAL Photo making and showing machine..i don’t care…you can even make it run on mac.

Definitely have to drop by a T-Mo and play with an HD7 today. Wooo

Just laid hands on HTC HD7. Didn’t want to put it down. Smooth and beautiful interface, layout is intuitive, and the only thing I think they need to add (besides copy/paste) is Swype.

  • Spence

Yeah, I’m still running around with a HTC Touch Pro. Although “Energy” has kept me floating along, its time to have a phone I’m not embarrassed by in my pocket. Would Love the HD7 for T-Mobile!

    Small things add up.
    No copy paste
    No chat style threaded text
No free text with google voice
    No notification bar
    No adobe flash
No turn by turn voice gps navigation

      Yawn.

Give it a break! You absolutely cannot be a tech person! No and let me repeat NO company releases a New device with all the bells and whistles! None! They want you to purchase the new edition in a years time with the new updates! That’s just the way it is! So stop this innane nonsense. It’s just plain dumb!

I’ve never used a Windows phone, but I like their commercials (especially the one where the guy drops his phone in the urinal). I would love the Samsung Focus.

  • Rob

I want a Samsung Focus. I really want to give Microsoft another chance, but after WinMo 6.5 it is hard to justify giving them my money to do so! The OS looks good, but I want to see if it has the issues that have plauged WinMo for so long…

Picked mine up this am here in NYC. I was the only one at the store..lol..lame launch if you ask me.

    • DevStar

It is weird. MS had a huge press lead-up to the February and October announcements. And no lead-up to the actual availability in the stores.

MS PR needs to learn something from Apple. If you’re not taking pre-orders, you need to generate excitement closer to the actual launch date.

  • Wireless Fool

The warning sticker on the back of the phones is quite ominous!

  • Walt Barcus

I have an older Zune, and I’ve tried the Zune Pass, so I think the addition of Zune to a phone is a great idea.

  • Roann

I am an absolute MS Windows slut!!! Love everything MS..To have an MS7 on a great phone is totally awsome!!

  • ImaPC

    It’s worth trying…

  • Rob

Just played with one at the att store. I didn’t think i would be, but I’m quite impressed. I’m really curious how it will hold up when the implement multitasking.
