Microsoft launching Office for Mac 2011 on October 26th

General

Earlier today, Microsoft finally announced the Office for Mac 2011 ship date, and it’s October 26th. We exclusively showed you Office for Mac 2011 way back in March, and started playing around with the software suite in April. We have been waiting for a PC-like version of Office for the Mac OS, well, forever, and we’re glad to see it finally get close to a general release. The thing we’re most excited about? Outlook 2011 and the great Exchange integration. Sorry, Mail.app, it was nice knowing you. In typical Microsoftness, there will be different flavors of Office: Home and Student Edition, Home and Business, as well as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel available independently for purchase.

      And your comment is???????

What I find hard to believe, even harder than the first idiotic post above, is that this is still in ‘BETA’; WTF, MS ?????? It’s 2010, not 1997!

    • ZPrime

It’s not still in Beta. It RTMd quite a while ago. It’s actually up for download (release version) for volume license customers already, and I presume MSDN and Technet as well.

I’ve been using the final stuff for a week now.

So How do you like it? Give us your take on it.
I like hearing from people actually USING it instead of someone who “thinks” they know all about it because they saw an emulator somewhere or people who just decided to hate it because its for Mac or made by microsoft…

Willl “microsoft remote desktop from mac” finally connect to windows 7?!?

    • ZPrime

It always has. Any failure is due to your lack of understanding of the security settings available in Win7′s RDP server.

Also note that if you don’t have W7 Pro or Ultimate, you don’t get remote desktop “server” on the machine…

my beta epired. any way to get it working for the next month until release?

going back to Entourage is doody

I’m kind of excited about this.
I have seen good reviews so far. It should be a nice addition to my new iMac.
IWork 09 is wonderful, but it couldn’t hurt to have options.
Microsoft has been doing good work lately. Windows 7 is the best windows, new windows OS for phones, maybe this will follow suite and be just as great.
Now if we can just get them to stop stupid things like funerals, all will be good. :)

Why is every comment on here down ranked? This is great news considering office for Mac was clearly lacking, I’ll sure be getting it.

    • Blah

some 15 year old android fanboy downranked anything to do with mac or windows…

One of the main things that has always bothered me about the Mac version of Office is how poor Excel is versus the PC version. Specifically, the keyboard shortcuts and the lack of VBA integration. Mac keyboard shortcuts blow when compared to the PC version (what do you mean I can’t do an Alt-E-S-T?!?). It kills me that I can’t use my formatting macros because of no VBA.

Hopefully now I’ll at least be able to import all of my Outlook personal folders that I saved from previous jobs.

Where is MS Office for Android? We have been waiting far too long for it…

    • Ernie

Get docstogo…. It’s office for android. And it’s pretty darn good.

  • Stephen

Outlook 2011 is super bloated, Mail.app works way better. And no OneNote.

No thanks, MS. Another dismal product for mac.

    • Ken

Mail is horrible. the fact that Address Book, iCal and Mail are all disparate programs with no integration is a joke. Apple put no resources into these programs. they are so bare bones and not at all ‘business class’. if office Mac 2011 blows then I will switch back to pc for Office alone.

  • Mr.Bill

    Another product for dismal mac.

    • Ernie

Dismal Mac? You obviously dont know computers… Your pals at google just use macs and some Linux boxes.

      • Blah

Even the Droid voice was created on a mac using Cellos sound.
        Try it and see.

  • phonemodo

Kinda glad this ones finally coming. The beta’s have been quality.

Sidenote: where the heck is Michael Bettiol gone? (I only mention since the beta load screen BGR used is licensed to him)
