Motorola DROID OTA schedule

Whisper

Here’s what we’ve got: a clear explanation from a VZW connect that outlines how the OTA updates work for the Motorola DROID. At noon today, approximately 1,000 people received the notification to update their handset. At around midnight this evening, 9,000 more will receive it. After the initial 10,000, there is a 48-hour waiting period. No one after that receives anything until December 10th at 12AM, which will be 200,000 people. It will continue at 200,000 devices a day until everyone is updated.

only a little while longer before we find out who the 780,000 upset and impatient Droid owners are…

WTF are you talking about… this is for the Droid??? Srsly.

      • Dsteffe

Love my Droid…hate the facebook app..get it? srsly

  • Eric

Uh whats up with the color scheme on this article? Its horrendous and terribly hard to read. This article only, the rest of the new stories on BGR are fine. Weird.

  • William Hartmann

Yay, just got it. And the new unlock screen is awesome

  • Droid Eris Chicago

Wuddup with the Eris?!?!?!? Thats one in DESPERATE need of an update. Facebook is shitty….MMS works when it wants to……and its slow. Remove those three problems and this phone would be GREAT.

anyone else having a prob with the site here?

    why is it all blue?

  • http://Ronfez.net Aaron

well what the hell, i have to wait till the 10th. BOLLOCKS!

  • BachinPhx

Hey BGR, Clear the blue background. For everyone else, click and drag to read the comments, they come out white and readable until they figure out how to get rid of this blue stuff.

  • anne onn

Dummies – If you do Ctrl-A (select all) it highlights all the text in a nice white readable style. No accounting for the bad codoing tho.

    where is my update :(

Zhu zhu pets are at the top of my daughter’s Christmas list and I got lucky to find some at retail price. I used http://www.amzpricesniper to do it. It works pretty well. 2 pets for under $20 bucks!

Just got the update. New lock screen is good but I liked the original one as well. No big deal. The best thing for me is the camera fix. That annoyingly loud *click* sound has been removed and it actually takes nicely focussed pictures a lot faster. Haven’t had time to try out the other fixes as I’m at work but even just the camera fix would have made me cheer.

  • WhyKillRobots

Blah, didn’t get my update yet… I guess I will be waiting. It sounds like many corrections have been made and that’s great. I really wish someone would work on the crappy Facebook app on Droid, it needs a serious update.

  • Ron

So, those with the update – does it match what the list said?

  • ChocoTaco

Y’all need to stop complaining about waiting a few days for the update. Big deal. At least the Droid has the convenience of OTA updates and you don’t have to do something stupid like download slow, buggy third party software to flash your phone via your computer. Talk about inconvenience and forced adware.

  • Frawley

Does the update allow for the home screen to rotate when you flip the phone to the side? Does this on the dock but not in hand…
MMS freezes up if you lock the phone while mms is open and then unlock

  • JAHVI

Did the new OS fix any of the following:

    1.Sending Ringtones
    2.Pix clarity

  • D.J.

First of all, WTF is up with this blue background and light gray text? It is pretty unreadable.

But on topic, I wasn’t one of the lucky ones to get in on the first wave, but I will most likely get it on the 10th. I’m glad Verizon is taking its time and making sure there aren’t any huge problems with the update or that the network doesn’t get slammed.

I am pretty happy with what I have now so I’m not waiting with bated breath for the update or anything. My camera is good enough for me, and the phone seems pretty fast. The increased battery life would be nice, but right now I’m getting about as much battery life as I did with my iPhone 3G so I’m happy with it.

That being said though, it would be nice if there was a way to sideload the update for those impatient people. They don’t have to advertise it, but the really tech saavy, really impatient people would be able to get the update and could handle any bugs or issues that the update has.

GRRRRRRRRRR i want my update :(

  • Aaryn

Nothing for me yet… ohh well love the phone I just wish I was up to date. I don’t trust the rooting stuff just for an update that I know is coming I’m just impatient haha

  • http://www.illusapparel.com Kean

Got mine! Its definitely more snappy. I’m using PandaHome and theres no lag now at all.
It kinda makes me think that this phone was rushed to release for the holiday season.
But I do love my droid. Its the best phone I’ve ever owned.

    • MarcusC

Perhaps it was a bit rushed, but lets keep it in perspective. The Storm just now became the phone it should have been when it was originally released.

  • Robert

Got mine yesterday, I like the new look for the lock screen
