BlackBerry Storm 2 hitting Verizon Wireless around October 25th?

Exclusive

blackberry-storm2-bestbuy

One of our ninjas just blessed us with a product inventory shot from Best Buy. It shows that Best Buy locations will be getting BlackBerry Storm 2 dummy units starting October 25th. Why is that important? Well, as it was explained to us, actual retail units start to come in a little bit before or a little bit after those dummy models hit.

Have the hunger for one more piece of Storm 2 info? Fine. We’ve also been told the unit will retail for $599 at Best Buy locations with no service agreement.

    @amd: Okay. What’s your number? I’ll send you a pic. ;)

@Scott: I figured the same, since the only time I’ve ever dropped a call was when I was talking to another iPhone owner. But I’m on a 3GS now and have never dropped a call on it.

Completely agree with ‘iphone’s’ comments – except I will never switch from the iphone. i was a long time bb user on verizon and the network is better, but the bb os is shit. and the tour was fast for browsing but was a crappy phone, esp after upgrading from the 8830.

all these different software builds and which one works best, etc. is total bs. i guess the knock on apple is that it’s ‘dumbed down’ for people who can’t think for themselves? why can’t blackberry have one os for all devices? besides, I get push email with mobile me and it hasn’t been down since I got it and it syncs contacts and calendar. to do that with BB you need exchange or some patchwork of different solutions. also, there’s a problem at least every month with bb email.

seriously, once the iphone is on verizon it will be lights out for android and winmo. also, just a question – why does everyone say that it costs so much money to do a cdma phone for apple? doesn’t the tour have both cdma and gsm in it – making it a world phone? how much money does that cost? vs. how many iphones would they sell in the first weekend on verizon? is 300k to 500k reasonable? how many in the first quarter? 2 million at least. i gotta think they would want to do this once the exclusivity is up. problem is they have to keep it a secret or it will kill att.

i just don’t understand why people assume apple won’t build a cdma/lte phone. they will have to if it will ever be on verizon. and i think they can’t wait for this to happen b/c they want to kill android. and the strain is crippling att’s network.

my last comment is basically that I can let my 4 yr. old use my iphone and work on spelling games, matching games, etc. that shit is priceless. I mean, it’s ridiculous how far ahead they are than everyone else and i don’t think that android or winmo is ever going to really catch up.

That was a jk because a lot of iPhone users experience issues with their device because AT&T’s 3G network is fast but it’s not strong enough to take that type of data consumption. I’ve owned all 3 verisons of the iPhone (2G, 3G, 3GS) on AT&T and T-Mobile (unlocked of course) and I always had issues with the call quality on AT&T because I used it on 3G with millions and millions of other iPhone users trying to access their phones as well, this didn’t surprise me. But when I turned off 3G and used 2G on AT&T and 2G on T-Mobile (only option due to T-Mobile having different 3G bands than AT&T) call quality on both my 3G and 3GS were a lot better. I got rid of my 3GS because I couldn’t stand not having 3G on T-Mobile and AT&T just plain sucks to me. They might be better when they deploy LTE, but thats a maybe because LTE is based on the existing 3G network and framework. I hope your service gets better though. If not, you can always come to Verizon and get the Tour for the time being or another BlackBerry that comes out probably the Essex next year. I have a TP2 but I can’t stand wm so I’m going to probably get the Moto Tao/Sholes when that comes out or the BlackBerry Storm 2. I hear the screen is a lot better and can actually be used as a “daily driver” now.

    @iPhone

I’ll give you the fact that the iPhone is definitely a great device but seriously, you sound like your close-minded saying that nothing touches the iPhone. That’s definitely not true. I owned a Bold when I was on AT&T and I actually preferred it over the iPhone for calls, email, you know, productivity things… The iPhone is mostly for media.

And at the end of the day, it all boils down to what each person prefers… “Different strokes for different folks.” So stop all the hating of other devices that aren’t the iPhone.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I am on Verizon now and you are out of your mind if you think phones don’t run on Verizon well. My call quality on my TP2 is impressive, way better than on any device I’ve ever used on AT&T’s network. So get your facts str8 buddy.

Special needs ninjas as in special needs riding the short bus to school wearing a helmet. Come on BGR, give us something good. All of your speculations are getting old. Where is the Omnia 2 you professed for release a couple of months ago. Still waiting on that puppy too!!

I’m a former bb curve owner with Tmo that switched to the g1. To everyone wanting a head to head between the sholes and the storm 2, take it from someone that has used both the bb os and the android os. There is no comparison, android simply blows bb away. Blackberry imo is great hardware and crappy software. I finally got tired of all the battery pulls and garbage web browser. I’m happy with my switch to android, it’s newer and more modern than bb os.

Don’t get too excited the in-stock date can change on that screen. I’ve seen ones that say in-stock in 2025. Now if the street date was highlighted then sure you can be excited until they push it back lol

    @ iphone trolls
Last time I checked this was a storm post.
Go play with your billions of fart apps …..no better yet go mms your buddies.
Looking forward to the storm 2 hands on BGR

The iPhone is the least manliest phone ever in the entire world. I don’t care how awesome it is, it should be renamed the iPetunia or the iDaisy. Seriously. Every iPhone should come with a pair of pantaloons.

    @ iphone

Sir, why are sweating your precious toy of yours?. The iphone is a good device but don’t come here and say its untouchable. That’s all at&t has is your precious toy. The Storm 2 will be worth the money. Also await the Essex, atlas, and the curve 8530. Verizon has a good line up especially with our android phones. Verizon will give at&t a run for their money.

Wow, all the iphone posts here. I didn’t read a single thing about iphone in the article. How odd. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to another INNOVATIVE phone that I can use on America’s largest, and most dependable 3g network. I’m not going to continue the phone bashing going on in the posts above. I will simply say that apple had a really good product put together and have been improving on it ever since. All those that are complaining about the BB browser…. Please visit http://www.boltbrowser.com . BB is not perfect. Make your own decision, but please don’t try to force that opinion on someone else.

  • ken

@iphone – not sure if you understood my post or if I failed to understand yours, but I was agreeing with your first and I think in your last post you just summarized mine?

the only thing I’m wondering is what makes the bold so great? I’ve played around with one and not sure what the difference is between curve, tour, etc. OTHER than the hardware/processor.

also, verizon is sort of better than att. I switched in august, so it’s recent and I’m in SF Bay Area which is a notoriously heavy iphone area with bad reception and lots of dropped calls. to give you an example, you can’t even get 3G in the Apple store at Union Square. this location is basically packed from opening until closing. it’s one of the highest end shopping districts in the country and in Apple’s backyard. Att should be embarrassed by this.

so for the first month and a half i had 3G turned off and really it was pretty good considering all the negative press. maybe a few drops, some dead spots. but overall very good and maybe a little static in some specific areas. of course this is a huge compromise, but i still thoroughly enjoyed the phone. the last week or two though I have been using 3G more and it definitely has improved. no static, no drops so far. so maybe they really are fixing the network. as long as they can get the 3G coverage up to speed att might be ok.

    @the anti-steven glansburg
your comment regarding apps reveals your shocking lack of knowledge. And your post is ironic if you are suggesting that iphone owners have nothing to contribute to this discussion.

If Verizon had the iPhone now, its network would soon become as congested as AT&T’s is now, with significantly higher data usage per smartphone customer plus an influx of new high-bandwidth customers. But it probably would take some load off AT&T’s network (or at least slow the growth of new demand) and improve service there.

Apple’s smartphone competition fear the day when AT&T exclusivity ends. But I think Verizon would want too much control over media content and software distribution for an agreement with Apple. Can you imagine Verizon allowing customers to get songs and videos from the iTunes Store and buy apps from the App Store? I can’t…

Also, I think Apple already has a CDMA iPhone; the crippled non-WiFi version that will go on sale tomorrow in China.

  • toursux

Iphone is great because of the app store. The os is ok but rather bland. The hardware is good but the cam sux compared to a lot of other phones!!!

I know for sure I’m getting the Storm2 BlackBerry for life!!!!!

    Sent via BlackBerry.

  • daknarr

Man! Does the violin player come with that iPhone? I’m hearing a lot of blame being thrown to ATT. Your 4 yr old can use it? Blackberry is for grown ups.

  • Chiitown Kruger

    Happy Halloween!!!!!

  • the anti-steven glansburg

Are we reading the same post? After reading again, I have yet to find a reference to the iphone or apple.
I hope rim learned from the negative feedback of the storm 1 and adjusted accordingly.

  • og_poncho@yahoo.com

Apple first approached Verizon with the iPhone but Verizon turned it down because Apple wanted too much control over the service. But I guess we will have to wait another 3 years and to see if ATT renews the exclusivity contract.

  • Fake Spotter!

Sorry, but this screen shot is a fake! SKU# 9573687 is actually the mock for the LG Glance in Best Buy’s system.

  • nichole

so do you really like the blackberry storm. ive read good and bad reviews….tell me what you think about it, like pros and cons please

  • Mike

Storm is a good overall phone, you need to pull the battery at times to clear memory and speed up unit. Hopefully Storm 2 resolves this issue. Also hope you can see Videos, old Storm dose not play all video formats that areon the internet

What’s so funny about all of this back-and-forth banter, is that the iPhone (while not futuristic or revolutionary), managed to open the creative minds of every other company in the cellular market. So, a lot of people say the iPhone is “touchable” however, wasn’t it the iPhone that started this now-evident trend of touch phones and simple, easy-to-use GUIs? I will say the iPhone has it’s shortcomings, most notably the camera (now improved on the 3GS), and the fact it’s on AT&T, which IMO sucks. I’ve had the iPhone 2G/3G, and have recently switched to Verizon due to the number of dropped calls I experienced. Great phone-shitty service. Go figure. Verizon has it backwards.

They’re service is phenomenal (in most places) but their phones are subpar compared to what’s out there. I’m not too fond of Verizon sticking their grimy fingers in every phone’s system, making for an ugly, extremly boring and unoriginal proprietary GUI. Blackberries are a different story. They attempted to copy the iPhone with the Storm, and failed. Now the Storm 2 is on the horizon, but will it beat the iPhone, who knows? The fact is, Apple makes a great product. Their multi-touch technology is wonderful, and their mobile Safari web browser is amongst the best in the market. Furthermore, it’s syncability is elementary and so convenient. They make great, easy-to-use, innovative products.

Blackberry is still geared towards business professionals however, according to market analysts, BB is losing shares due to the number of business folks leaving due to the iPhone. More people want products like the iPhone, so it speaks for itself. Once other companies understand creativity, and outside-the-box thinking, they’ll hopefully start making trends of their own. But for now, I’m more than happy watching Apple lead the way.

And all of this stems from a person who just parted with the iPhone for a Blackberry Tour, and I must say, while not bad, it’s not nearly as easy to use or intuitive as the iPhone. Verizon has the best service–period. With regards to the their phones, that’s another story.

  • THE ILLITE

Go to china, or even europe. The iphone is shit in comparison to anything they have. Keep opening your mouth just to close it.

  • ap

I had AT&T and my calls dropped constantly on verizon they rarely drop. I love the bb storm and you can download opera mini for a browser if you dont like bb browser.
