BlackBerry Tour MR1 OS to be 4.7.1.53?

Exclusive

blackberrytourreview13

We’ve been hearing rumors of a September MR for the BlackBerry Tour for a while now. Even though OS 4.7.1.42 didn’t turn out to be the first official new software release, we believe we now have a winner. We’ve just got word that the official maintenance release for the BlackBerry Tour due out around October 1st will be OS 4.7.1.53. I’ve been running this on my Tour for a pretty long time and even though it does manage to speed up the phone a bit, it’s really not the answer I think many Tour owners are looking for. Better than nothing, though! At least until 5.0 gets here…

Thanks, Rob!

Tour trackball issues ARE hardware. About 1/4 of the original Tour recipients got phones made in a small Canada facility. Those had the defects. My trackball would take 5 slides to select the next icon or scroll thru text.

My replacement Tour comes from Mexico, which did not suffer from this trackball problem.

    And I am on Verizon.

The trackball issue was prevalent in many Tours that were made prior to about Aug 20th. It was hardware, not software. Canada or Mexico didn’t matter. RIM got the production changed. Verizon ships fixed units with a “green dot” on the barcoded label to confirm it’s a fixed one (though some prior owners have to go through a “replacement” or even what’s formally being called a “factory refurbished unit” or FRU to get what will still be a brand new “green dot” unit).

I’ve gone through three Tours and all have had serious call quality issues: people keep saying I’m breaking up. A tier-3 VZW tech tells me it’s a known issue and not to expect it fixed until “at least” MR1, if that. This issue is apparently software. Also, people tell me my volume is low when I use a top-line Bluetooth headset – also has been a consistent problem across all three units I’ve tried. VZW tier-3 tech actually told me they had a list of 42 known issues and that this was proving as bad as the initial Storm.

Glad to year many users have no issues. I myself had to go back to my very reliable Curve 8330, which my friend the VZW tech also said was my only option if I need it to work for business at this time.

Any chance that someone might pry a copy of the list of 42 known issues out of VZW?

Just got the official email from Blackberry, telling me to update. My Desktop software indeed just upgraded my VZW Tour to the official release of 4.7.1.53. Let’s see if it fixes some of these 42 issues. = /

    Who is your carrier?

The track ball problem with the tour is not really a hardware issue because any user can fix it on their own with a couple clicks

If a user increases the trackball’s Horizontal Sensitivity (Options, Screen/Keyboard), sometimes this improves the trackball issue slightly, but it is by no means a fix. Currently, the only fix is replacement of the device. That being said, the .53 OS does appear to improve trackball performance on a working trackball.

I just realized this thread fails to mention something really important, which is that the premature or unofficial release of MR1 from Verizon a couple weeks ago was not a bona fide or proper release.

The fact that some Verizon users had their phones automatically download and install it was in fact an error on the part of Verizon.

Within hours the link was taken down and it became known on various forums that it had issues and was not ready for release.

It is still not officially out yet!
