Apple intros lame Laptop Hunters response; beats same drum over, and over, and over, and over

Opinions

Apple’s “I’m a Mac” ads were awesome when they first came out; witty, fun, amusing and effective. Now they’re just plain boring. Cupertino’s creative crew is seemingly running on fumes at this point, and in what we would think is a pretty major spot for the team — Apple’s response to Microsoft’s successful Laptop Hunters ads — it swung and missed big time. The new Apple spot beats the same old virus drum and then in the final movement of this tour de crap, Puddy hands the shopper a card and says, “When you’re ready to compromise, you call me.” Good call guys. In the midst of a recession where the name of the game is compromising luxury for necessity and functionality, that’s the road you chose to take. Grade: F. Hit the jump for the commercial.

I really think there’s a positive correlation between gays, macs, and liberals… Who’s with me?

@jimmy: It IS ridicules! I heard that if you even install your own softwares in a MAC they dont honer the warrant. Not that theres any softwares for MAC in the first place! lololol

Some of the people leaving comments miss the point on the importance of having no virus cause you to lose your data and reformat your hard drives. That can be a major disaster for anyone with pictures or music or movies on a disc that goes south. Your are paying for a rock solid operating system that lets you conduct your everyday chores with the insurance it will be there at all times. Even if it is just personal pictures, you build an incredibly big digital photo album and would not ever chance losing it by putting anything on a PC. Just my view since i started on the mac os in ’99. No virus and no loss of data ever. Is that worth the extra price. I says yes. Good commercial which cuts to the heart of the matter.

I own a mac and a few PC’s. When I do the math, my PC’s are a better deal, but when I use it, my Mac wastes less of my time. It just works; it does what I want it to do without the hassle. And I’ve now used my Mac for three years without the gradual decrement in performance culminating in a rebuild that’s been my experience with every PC I’ve ever owned. Maybe this wouldn’t have been the case if I’d taken some computer science classes in college, but I’m ok with having spent some extra money on a machine that does what I want it to rather than being a middle-aged virgin who knows how to manage his PC registry such that his computer will boot in under ten minutes.

Anyone else think the term “fan boy” sounds really stupid. Who would choose to call themselves a fan boy?
As far as all the arguing goes, Mac’s are great if your one of those insecure people hung up on differentiating yourself from everyone else. Personally I like having both right and left click on my mouse. I use my 5 year old pc for commercial design work and it still works great!

“Anyone else think the term “fan boy” sounds really stupid. Who would choose to call themselves a fan boy?”

    People who appreciate irony.

“I use my 5 year old pc for commercial design work and it still works great!”

I think that’s great. Good for you. You clearly don’t need a new computer and have every reason, it sounds like, to be satisfied with your PC.

People pretty much need to stop trashing platforms they are ignorant about. Just cause your too lazy to learn something different doesn’t mean it sucks. Grow up America and find something better to do with your time instead of talking about something most know nothing about.

“I think it was because they contested the facts in the MS ad, maybe having to do with the prices/specs quoted for the Macs being out of date, not reflecting current pricing & models. That seems like a reasonable objection. I dunno why MS never objected to the Apple ads: no factual inaccuracies, maybe?”

Um…did the pricing on those Macs go down? Because I work at a store that sells these products every day and the cheapest Mac is still $1000.

And I think suggesting that your machines never get viruses is touting a factual inaccuracy.

c’mon: If you really worked in a store selling macs, you’d know the prices dropped considerably (the $1195 13″ MBP is an improved version of a MB that cost $1495 the day before it was announced, for example). So: Yes.
