Mark/Space issues Missing Sync beta for Palm Pre

Software

Following a promise made to the always impatient Interwebs, Mark/Space has stayed true to its word and issued a public beta version of Missing Sync for the Palm Pre. The web-famous sync utility that always comes to the rescue for Mac users is now at version 1.0b but it’s (nearly) fully functional and of course free to try. So what can you sync? Contacts, Music, photos, ringtones, files, calendar items, videos and podcasts are all covered in this release. Soon to be added to this generous list is Safari bookmarks, though the forthcoming MyBookmarks app is a prerequisite so we’re not quite there yet. As has become expected, Missing Sync for the Pre does include proximity sync, which will sync up your Pre when it is detected on the same network as your Mac. Sweet. Requirements include Pre OS 1.0.2+, OS X 10.5.6+, iTunes 7.4+ and a few other notes depending on what you want to sync. Want to buy it after you try it? $40 gets you in the door and gets you the release version as soon as it comes out.

If only they had this type of program for blackberry storm users.

  • StevenGlansburg

Verizon would lock it out if they did

  • JonyB

they do have a version for the storm although it plain doesnt work. i finally was issued a refund after countless wasted hours trying to make it work.

  • Nelly

Wonder why RIM chose not to make a program for the storm to sync with a Mac? Plus up here in Canada telus and bell both do not have the ota upgrade for the os. They are just plain lazy to do it! There are so many users out there that cannot upgrade because of this and also not having the ota implemented by the carrier. Boo urns!

Hope it works better then the version they sell to BB users. That version stopped working reliably after BB OS 4.5

  • Rob

btw- if all apps for Pre cost that much Palm is doomed!!!!

this could the end of Pre if they allow such pricey options and Iphone’s apps are 1-2 or even 7 dollars a piece
:( bad bad news- i am very disappointed

  • Nelly

Lol well actually I’m not a fan of the tour. I’m waiting for a blackberry which will have the north american hspa band because telus my provider is switching to this technology around sept october area. Would not waste my money on the tour because of this.

    @ Rob

How much are the Pre’s apps?

  • AgBand

    @ Nelly:

Apparently RIM is releasing a Mac version of the Desktop Manager in late August

  • informed

    @Rob

The Missing Sync app you download to the Pre is free, the desktop version(s) are beta, just like the desktop version for the iphone, you have to pay for it. All the app’s in the App Catalog have been free. Including Pandora. ;)

Can someone elaborate on RIM releasing a Mac OS X native desktop app for the Blackberry syncing?

  • Chuckles

Mainly because RIMM’s API’s plain don’t work. I tried for months to get the Java APIs to behave correctly. If MS got something to actually work with any degree of performance more power to those guys.

  • moi

I have bought some of his software and once there is an upgrade on the phone or an issue with their software.they have been mia for me. $40 is way too much considering I have never gotten any after support from them.

Has Apple, in the past, includ
ed in any iTunes update, code that breaks the ability to sync to a Palm? Considering Palm and iPhone compete I am concerned that Apple will work to disable any sync capability that uses iTunes which they control via updates???
I just don’t want to get a Palm, and then discover that Apple screws with iTunes so I can not sync it to my iMac!
I love the keyboard that the Palm Pre has so want this instead of an iPhone.

    Comments??

I wish I’d have come to this site prior to purchasing this product. I have a Blackberry Curve and tried the demo of the product and it worked quite well updating via bluetooth. All I wanted was the calendar and address book sync. I was so happy with its performance that I decided to purchase it. Unfortunately, I selected the wrong version and can’t get anyone from their support to help with this. Not happy at all. Their support is via email only and when I called the number it indicated it will take 4 business days for a response. If I were a business, I doubt it would take 4 days.

I don’t care if a product cost 4 bucks, you need to have a way to resolve sales issues. That’s a no-brainer. Now I want my money back.

Well Mark: I think by now you are aware that Apple has disabled the ability for Palm Pre to masquerade as an iPhone or iPod. Who knows if they will continue disabling this functionality. You may be broken with every update. I think the lawyers will get involved in this. I’d wait on the Palm Pre. I loved my Treo when I had it. I upgraded and gave the older model to one of my sisters. Then my company gave me a Blackberry so I gave up the upgraded Treo to my other sister. They love them though they are quite old now, over 2+ years. Both have AT&T so they would love to go to Sprint. They however are not happy with the iTunes deal.

    Good Luck
