Stop what you’re doing and check your OneDrive account right now. Your storage space might be in danger if you’re only using a free account, as Microsoft is starting to downgrade freebie OneCloud accounts to 5GB. That’s plenty of cloud data available free of charge, but the move could still hurt those users who’re using more than that.

You see, Microsoft is taking away the 15GB of free OneDrive space that you may have received at some point in the past years, and it’s replacing it with 5GB of space. Furthermore, the 15GB camera back-up bonus you may have received in the past is going away also, Engadget reports.
To be absolutely fair, Microsoft isn’t doing it out of the blue. The company did send out emails about the impending OneDrive cloud storage change earlier this year. So it’s not like it didn’t tell you this was happening. Even so, the move might catch certain OneDrive users unprepared. So you’d better back up your cloud data right now, and think about whether you need more OneDrive space. You can even consider migrating your data to a new cloud storage provider that might offer more space under free accounts.
The email Microsoft sent out, like the one above, tells you that you’ll have 14 days to fix your storage, after which time your account will become read-only until you make sure your data doesn’t exceed the storage limit.
If you’ve opted out of the July change by January 31st, you’ll still be able to retain the 30GB combine storage (free account and photo storage), and this change will not affect you.
