The M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air are finally available for Apple fans to buy. Unveiled during the Let Loose event last week, they can now be purchased through Apple’s website or in Apple stores around the world.
This iPad Pro is the most advanced tablet Cupertino has ever created, with the exclusive M4 processor, a new landscape position for the front-facing camera, a crazy-thin design with a Tandem OLED display, and new accessories.
That said, if you’re willing to buy this tablet—or you’re just waiting for UPS to deliver it—you need to install two important updates for the M4 iPad Pro as soon as you first power it on.
First of all, the new iPad still comes with iPadOS 17.4. On Monday, Apple released iPadOS 17.5 to iPad users, but the official update for the M4 iPad Pro was only released a day later. With that, once you’re setting everything up, you can’t forget to install the latest iPadOS update, which includes:
Apple News+
- Offline mode in Apple News+ gives you access to the Today feed and News+ tab, even when you don’t have an internet connection
- Quartiles is a new and original daily word game that is now available in Apple News+
- Scoreboard in News+ Puzzles gives you access to new player data for Crossword, Mini Crossword, and Quartiles, including stats and streaks
Tracking Notifications
- Cross-Platform Tracking Detection delivers notifications to users if a compatible Bluetooth tracker they do not own is moving with them, regardless of what operating system the device is paired with
Document Scanning
- Document scanning is improved on the new iPad Air and iPad Pro
In addition, if you bought the newest Apple Pencil Pro, Apple has also released a firmware update. Although it’s unclear what Apple has tweaked, it is like fixing some precision bugs or improving the pencil’s reliability.
Apple doesn’t explain how to update the firmware of the Apple Pencil Pro, but as long as you keep it charging for 30 minutes on your M4 iPad Pro, it’s possible that it will get the update. Apple Pencil Pro must be in version 0.1.33 on Settings with build 10M6652.
