The Galaxy Note 7 is going to be unveiled in a few days, and Samsung’s next-gen phablet — what will likely become the best performing Android device of the year — will finally be official. However, most leaks so far have suggested the phone will come in a single curved “edge” flavor, which isn’t necessarily good news for everyone.

Sure, the dual-edge design of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S6 is certainly appealing, and the phones look amazing, and they feel great in hand – of those, the Galaxy S7 edge is the clear winner. But not all buyers want curved displays in a smartphone, particularly in a type of device that comes with a built-in stylus, the kind of accessory that might not be that friendly to curved display edges.
However, more recent leaks have also shown the Galaxy Note 7 in a flat version, suggesting that Samsung might have two Galaxy Note 7 models in stores this year. Dutch blog TechTastic found even more pictures on Weibo, showing the flat Galaxy Note 7 in action – yes, the screen is turned on in the images at the end of this post.
The leak also includes two screenshots that seem to confirm the phone’s specs, including a 2K AMOLED display, octa-core 64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 12-megapixel camera, and Android 6.0.1.
The fact that more images showing a flat new Note are appearing in leaks doesn’t necessarily mean Samsung will actually sell this model anywhere in the world. We might be looking at pictures of prototype devices, so don’t get too excited about a flat Galaxy Note 7 just yet.
Samsung will tell us all about the new Note on August 2nd, during a special Unpacked media event in New York.
