Apple is likely going to introduce a new 4-inch smartphone at some point next year, considering that more and more rumors coming from distinct sources seem to paint the same overall picture. Apple has an iPhone 5s successor in the works that’ll feature a 4-inch display, metal design, and components that will put it almost on par with the iPhone 6 series.
A new report from China now says the phone will not be launched as the iPhone 6c next year – which is a name often used to describe a new 4-inch iPhone – but as the iPhone 7c, suggesting the phone will be included in Apple’s 2016 family of handsets.

According to tech blog M.I.C Gadget, which provided iPhone-related rumors from China in the past, sources from Foxconn’s suppliers say Apple plans to launch an iPhone 7c next year. The phone is supposed to have a 4-inch display and a metal rear shell according to the site. The phone should be unveiled in early 2016, and build up excitement for the iPhone 7.
Apple is expected to move to iPhone 7 next year with its iPhone naming scheme, but it would certainly be strange to see the company launch an iPhone 7c several months ahead of the arrival of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus flagships.
The blog says the phone should cost $400 to $500 in the USA.
An insider with an accurate track record predicting Apple’s moves said earlier this week that a new 4-inch iPhone is indeed coming next year. KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo said that the 4-inch device will cost up to $500, feature Apple’s A9 chip, NFC, Apple Pay, and an iPhone 6-like design, complete with 2.5D glass and metal shell.
