‘The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth’ is finally available on the App Store

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Nearly a year after being rejected by Apple, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth successfully made its way to the App Store on Tuesday night. Rebirth is a remake of the original Binding of Isaac, which launched on PC in 2011. Although its subject matter has been the subject of controversy, the roguelike twin-stick shooter managed to find an audience, warranting a remaster for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Vita and 3DS in 2014.

And now, despite having made no changes to the game (according to creator Edmund McMillen), The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth finally made it through the approval process on the App Store this week.

“The Binding of Isaac is a randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy Rogue-like elements,” reads the description on the game’s App Store page. “Following Isaac on his journey players will find bizarre treasures that change Isaac’s form giving him super human abilities and enabling him to fight off droves of mysterious creatures, discover secrets and fight his way to safety.”

There are hundreds of items to collect, hundreds of enemies to defeat and nearly infinite variety from playthrough to playthrough, as each run will feature a randomly-generated environment to explore. While the price is somewhat steep for a premium app, the developers claim you can squeeze 500 hours of gameplay out of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, which certainly sounds like a fair trade-off for $14.99.
