It’s a shame that video game consoles have grown so large that carrying them to a friend’s house no longer feels like a reasonable option. You’re not going to throw your Xbox One in a backpack the way you did with your Nintendo 64 or PS1 20 years ago, which makes local multiplayer even more obsolete than it already was.
Thankfully, with AirConsole, all you need is a computer and a smartphone — two things nearly everyone carries around — to jump into a multiplayer game.

AirConsole is a website that turns your browser into a console and your smartphone into a gamepad. When you visit the site, you’ll be greeted by a big green “Start” button. Once you press it, the window will automatically go fullscreen and you’ll see a code that will let you connect your browser to your phone.
Once the browser detects at least one phone, it will switch over to a new menu filled with dozen of free games that anyone with a smartphone can play cooperative or competitively with everyone else in the room.
If you’d rather not use the browser on your phone, you can also download the AirConsole app on the App Store or on Google Play. It’s totally worth it if you plan on playing more than once.
Here’s a short trailer showing the site and the app in action:
