Ever wanted to visit the places you see in some of your favorite movies and shows, including Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and whatever else tickles your fancy? There are two ways of doing it. One involves collecting all the location data yourself from the internet. The other is an interactive map that tells you exactly where you have to go to see the locations from your favorite films.
DON’T MISS: Making sense of Apple now that everything has changed
Unsurprisingly, the interactive maps come from Expedia, which looks to sell travel packages based on your movie preferences. Of course you don’t have to buy a package from Expedia, but you’ll at least get all the information you need and you’ll be able to plan your trip accordingly.
Using Google Maps technology, The World on Screen section of the site already contains plenty of real-life sets, in addition to Star Wars or Game of Thrones. There are various vacation search options to meet your needs, from city breaks to road trips, to beach holidays. You can either select a movie genre or enter the film title to get appropriate results, as seen in the following image.
For example, a Game of Thrones tour through Europe would include several pit stops: Northern Ireland, Iceland, Croatia, Malta and Alcazar de Seville. All locations are marked on the map so that you can follow along. Expedia describes each of the real-life locations you’ll encounter along the way, providing tips about the entire trip including travel and accommodation.
