One of the most anticipated sequels of all time might finally be announced this summer. Fraghero received an email from a reader this week claiming that Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West has been in development at Rockstar Games for over four years and will be officially unveiled at E3 2016 in June.

The source also suggests that the game will feature more than one playable character, a significantly larger open world and will launch in 2017. An HD remake of Red Dead Redemption is said to be in the works for a 2016 release as well.
According to the source, this information came from an ex-Rockstar employee, but Fraghero was unable to independently verify the information. In other words, don’t get your hopes up… but it has been nearly 3 years since GTA 5 released. Rockstar must have been working on something in the interim, right?
All that said, there is some evidence to suggest Red Dead Redemption 2 is inevitable, even if it doesn’t show up at E3 this year. Two years ago, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, said to a group of analysts that “it seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise,” implying Redemption wouldn’t be the end of the franchise.
Furthermore, Danny Ross, a former production designer at Rockstar Games, responded “Really? Dumbass. Really? Two.” during a Reddit AMA when asked what Rockstar might be working on next. I know I don’t have to spell it out for you, but take the first letter of the first three words and you have RDR 2.
We’ll know for sure on June 14th when E3 kicks off in Los Angeles.
