A leak from earlier this week claimed to show the iPhone 7’s redesigned antenna lines, which appeared to be in line with what earlier reports said – that Apple would address one of the ugliest things about the iPhone 6 and 6s. However, in a hilarious twist, a Chinese smartphone maker insisted on setting the record straight, saying the image actually shows the back of its upcoming new smartphone, which just so happens to be an iPhone copycat.

You usually don’t see smartphone makers confirm component leaks, but Meizu’s vice president of sales and marketing Li Nan apparently wanted to make sure everyone knows the leaked design belongs to the Meizu Pro 6, a phone that’s not commercially available yet.
To prove that point Nan posted the image above on the right to Weibo, showing the bottom half of the phone complete with Meizu branding. The antenna design in Nan’s image (right) matches the one seen in this week’s “iPhone 7” leak (left).
Even though Meizu seems very interested in diverting some of the buzz around that picture towards its upcoming high-end device, we can’t but notice that the overall shape, material used, and color of the phone suggest the Meizu Pro 6 will be very similar to iPhone 6s when it comes to design. That’s what made the earlier leak look so convincing, especially considering that some reports say the iPhone 7 will be remarkably similar to the iPhone 6s – and there’s nothing wrong with that.
