The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada sets the tone for the year to come. Companies large and small bring their latest and greatest products and show them off in an effort to gain attention from the press, the public, and partners. Last week’s event was the biggest CES in history with more than 170,000 attendees who had over 2.2 million net square feet of exhibit space to cover. Odds are good that no one managed to cover it all, but we did our best to find the most exciting and innovative products this year’s show had to offer.
These are BGR’s CES 2016 Awards winners.
LG G6 Signature OLED TV
CES has long been dominated by high-definition televisions and making a splash among them is no easy feat. With its new high-end G6 Signature OLED TV, LG has done just that.
LG’s new Signature line features a stunning design that is unlike any television we’ve seen in the past, but the G6 is more than just a pretty face. The 4K Ultra HD panel sits in a housing that is just 2.5mm thick and yet still manages to offer stunning picture quality with deep blacks and vivid colors.
The G6 will begin shipping in March in 65-inch and 77-inch sizes.
Under Armour Healthbox
Under Armour might have been a bit late to the game with its new line of connected fitness devices, but it looks poised to shake up the industry with its CES 2016 announcements.
This is what the future of fitness looks like.
The Healthbox is at the center of Under Armour’s new connected product catalog and it packs three devices that cover all the bases when coupled with the Under Armour mobile apps, Record and MyFitnessPal. Included in the kit are a connected scale, a heart rate chest strap, and the UA Band.
Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator
Talk about a game-changer.
Samsung’s next-generation smart refrigerator was easily one of the stars of CES 2016. A large touchscreen on the front of one of the unit’s four doors displays a wide range of information from calendar appointments and notes to recipes you can refer to as you cook. It also includes an interior camera that shows you the fridge’s contents without having to open the doors, and it can keep track of when food will spoil.
Best of all, you can make shopping lists right on the screen and the fridge will order your groceries for you.
LG Rollable Display
LG’s G6 Signature OLED TV was one reminder from CES 2016 that the company is a leader in display technology, but it wasn’t the only thing LG showed off that got people talking. The company gave us our first glimpse at an exciting new future in display panel technology when it showed off an 18-inch screen that can be rolled up like a newspaper.
The implications are huge. This breakthrough will ultimately place display panels in places we’ve never dreamed they might be, and we’re going to see a wide range of devices with exciting new form factors as well.
Ignition Labs Portal Router
Every connected device in our homes and offices rely on Wi-Fi and yet it remains a common pain point for many users. Ignition Labs is looking to change that with its Portal router. The device can utilize 250% more of the 5GHz spectrum than other routers. It also actively scans for interference on nearby channels to automatically and continuously make adjustments that will keep connections speedy.
Aterica Veta Smart Case
Some new products shown off at CES look to entertain you and others are meant to wow you, but the Veta Smart Case by Aterica might actually save your life.
This case is designed to house EpiPens and other auto-injectors. In the event an injector needs to be used, the case will automatically notify the user’s preset family members. This is a big breakthrough for parents of children with severe allergies, and it’s set to launch in February.
Consumer Physics SCiO
The SCiO by Consumer Physics is a revolutionary pocket-sized spectrometer that can analyze the molecular composition of nearly anything. Simply point the device at a food, medicine, or any other object and information about its makeup will be transmitted to the SCiO’s companion smartphone app.
Withings Thermo
We’ve all had to use a digital thermometer at some point and each experience is a painful reminder of how antiquated and unreliable these devices are despite being so simple. The new Withings Thermo is a smart thermometer that changes all that.
The connected device features 16 infrared sensors that capture 4,000 temperature readings in just 2 seconds, ensuring the most accurate reading possible. Readings can also be transmitted over Wi-Fi to Thermo’s companion app.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
If you think performance has to be compromised to achieve the thin housings and light weight we expect from ultrabooks, you haven’t met the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon from Lenovo.
The new X1 Carbon features a stunning design that’s sleek and portable at just 2.6 pounds, but it also packs a punch where specs are concerned. The 14-inch ultrabook includes a 6th generation Intel Core i7-6600U processor, a next-generation Samsung PCIe NVMe SSD drive with up to 1TB of storage, an integrated LTE modem, a fingerprint scanner for security, and a battery that can last up to 11 hours per charge.
Kwikset Premis Smart Door Lock
Smart locks are a dime a dozen these days but the new Premis smart lock by Kwikset stands out from the crowd. It also looks great and offers lock control using a smartphone, a PIN code or a key. It’s also one of only two locks compatible with Apple’s HomeKit platform, so you’ll be able to control your door simply by talking to Siri.
