Disney has done a solid job concealing the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Trailers and TV commercials revealed various tidbits about Episode VII’s characters and plot, but Luke was never really shown — or, at least, his face has yet to be seen. In interviews, Star Wars director J.J. Abrams remained mysterious about Luke. Similarly, Mark Hamill said he can’t reveal any information about Luke’s fate in the upcoming movie, which opens December 18th. Luke isn’t even on the film’s official poster.
But Hamill just confirmed that Luke will appear in the sequel. Planned for a summer 2017 launch, Episode VIII already has a first script draft ready. Attention, though, some huge spoilers are ahead!
“Last shaved on 10/22 after final day of my 2nd #TheFlash (which airs 12/8 #XmasTrix), just in time for Ep VIII-whew!” Hamill tweeted on Monday, with fans quickly picking up the message.
Hamill did not say anything else other that he’s leaving his beard grow. Apparently, veterans of the Force need beards and Disney is expressly requesting this visual appearance from the actor. It’s not clear whether Luke will be still alive in Episode VIII or whether he’ll make ghost-like appearances like Obi-Wan before him.
After The Flash, where he plays The Trickster, Hamill is free to grow his beard for future projects, The Guardian reports. Furthermore, the news site picked up some spoilers for the upcoming Star Wars movie, which may reveal many details about the plot.
Han Solo, Rey, and Finn are on a mission to find Luke, with the droid BB-8 containing critical information related to the whereabouts of the Jedi master. First Order forces attack Lupita Nyong’o castle, where Solo and gang are looking for assistance in their quest. While General of the Resistance Leia Organa saves the day with the help of an X-Wing fleet of ships, Kylo Ren still manages to capture Rey and the cute new robot. How’s that for a concentrated pill of purported The Force Awakens action?
These spoilers have apparently been discovered in a Star Wars “Look and Find” children’s book supposed to be published next month.
