It seems that Apple’s (AAPL) transition away from Samsung (005930) isn’t going as smoothly as hoped. DigiTimes has become the latest to report that supply chain difficulties have made it harder to produce as many iPad minis as quickly as Apple would like. What’s more, unnamed sources have told the publication that the iPad mini’s touchscreen technology “is having mass production issues, which has been a big contributor to why the device is approximately 40-50% more expensive compared to other 7-inch tablets.” The DigiTimes report follows an earlier report this week about how Apple’s decision to ditch Samsung as a component supplier has left it scrambling to get its other suppliers to build enough iPad mini displays.
