‘The Heist’ iPhone app hands-on

If you’re a Mac user, there’s a decent chance you’ve heard of Macheist, a deal site that bundles different Mac applications together for a ridiculously low price. While The Heist isn’t a bundled software deal, it’s an insanely addictive puzzle game for the iPhone based on a theme of trying to crack into a safe — hence the title. There are four different puzzle types and over 60 levels, each one with distinct themes and objectives. And, in addition, there’s a promised prize to any user that completes every level in the game. Not a bad hook, right? The game is built by developer TapTapTap, makers of the Camera+ iPhone app, and it’s available now for $0.99 in the App Store — and it’s currently sitting pretty as the No. 1 paid app.

Imangi Studios’ popular Harbor Master game for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad has been updated with a couple of noteworthy features. Harbor Master version 2.1 adds Game Center support, the option to compete with friends on 10 leaderboards, and 38 new achievements. Imangi also added a new option to rewind once per game. That means you’ll be able to step back in the game after someone bumps into your on the subway and causes you to crash your tanker. We’ve been playing this game since it launched, and the goal is to navigate your ships into the appropriate harbor color across seven different maps. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 now $4.99 in honor of Masters

If you’re throwing your chips at the TV wondering why Tiger can’t break into the top five during this year’s Master’s Tournament, then pick up a set of clubs and hit the links yourself. EA has dropped the price of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 to $4.99 — from it’s original $6.99 price – in honor of the Masters Tournament. We wrote up the game’s launch on March 29th and have really been enjoying the gameplay. The graphics have improved vastly from the original and we like the multiplayer option for competing against friends. We’re not sure how long the price drop will remain in effect, though, so jump over to your local iTunes App Store and download a copy. Shoot’em straight. More →

Doodle Jump updated with multiplayer support

Doodle Jump updated with multiplayer support

Doodle Jump for iOS has been out for as long as we can remember and it’s been blessed with a number of seasonal updates… but we’re particularly hyped up for the update that was pushed out Wednesday. Now Doodle Jump addicts —  including the team here at BGR — can play against one another and test their jumping skills. In multiplayer mode, the first person to pass the 12,000 point mark wins, but the game throws some curve balls at you, too. For instance, if one player bounces off of a spring, another player can’t use that same spring. If one player falls, the game is over. We definitely had some adrenaline pumping while going head-to-head against one another. We love that multiplayer works over Wi-Fi, which allowed us to play against one another from different states. Yes, Jonathan won. Hit the jump for a link to the free update. More →

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 for iOS now available

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 for iOS now available

Look, we know what it feels like to be the only one left in the office while the senior partners all go out for a not-so-quick 18. But that’s OK, because today EA launched Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 for the iPhone and iPod touch ($6.99) and iPad ($9.99). The updated game allows you to hit the links on championship courses, including TPC Sawgrass, Pebble Beach, and St. Andrews, all from the comfort of your cubicle. We fired up the game today and loved the multiplayer option, which allows you to challenge friends over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth — you can also find friends ready to hit the links by signing into Facebook. The graphics look like they have been totally overhauled from the original, iPhone Tiger Woods game, but the controls remain just as easy — you pull your finger down to swing back, throw it forward to swing through, and add spin to the ball by swiping like a madman. We’re definitely impressed with the game so far and think it’s a worthy update to the original. All those years of sleep-away golf camp are finally paying off. Hit the jump for the iTunes link. Doodle Jump: Hop the Movie game now free for iOS

Doodle Jump: Hop the Movie game now free for iOS

Doodle Jump fans, we realize it might be hard to put down the game for a few minutes to read this post, but bear with us. Today, “Doodle Jump: Hop the Movie” launched for free in the App Store for iOS devices. The game was developed through a partnership between Lima Sky, which created the first Doodle Jump game, and Universal Pictures, for a new movie called Hop. As TouchArcade points out, you’ll take the controls as a rabbit named E.B., the son of the Easter Bunny who needs more practice jumping. There are twenty-five levels, eight of which are available now, and one new level will become available each day until Hop hits theaters on April 1st. Our high score during our first play was 4,074. Yes, we know it’s pathetic, but it’s the best we could do. More →
