Trump is easily the most polarizing presidential candidate the country has seen in years. Decades, even. Perhaps ever. People either love him to the point that each new inaccuracy fact-checked by the media only makes their allegiance more staunch, or they hate him to the point where they can’t even recognize that much of his schtick is well calculated.

But regardless of which camp you fall in, you have to appreciate the internet’s collective response to Trump’s speech on Tuesday night, which was delivered in front of a giant wall of garbage.

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his team chose a decent enough location for his speech on economic policy Tuesday night. A Pennsylvania factory belonging to raw material producer Alumisource was a great setting for Trump as he spoke of revitalizing American manufacturing, a broad notion most Americans can get behind.

What’s the internet could not get behind, however, was the backdrop Trump’s team arranged — the billionaire mogul chose to deliver this key speech while standing in front of a giant wall of garbage. No, seriously. Garbage.

Alumisource serves the aluminum and steel industries, and much of its work involves recycling different materials to produce various items for its clients. Aluminum cans are obviously a big resource for the company, and Trump stood in front of a wall of used cans and other junk pulled from varying stages of the recycling process. One can see how the idea for such a backdrop might have crossed the Trump campaign’s collective mind, but it’s the kind of thing a more forward-thinking crew might have dismissed. With prejudice. Immediately.
