Is Microsoft already getting ready for another big Xbox One price cut?

Xbox One Price Cut Gamescom

Based on a recent update to the Spanish version of Xbox.com on mobile browsers, the Xbox One might be receiving a $50 price cut in the near future. NeoGAF user Hydragyrus was the first to point out the message on the Spanish webpage, which shows a picture of the Xbox One with the message “Ahora desde 349,99 €” (Now from 349,99 €) beneath it. A hashtag for #xboxgamescom also appears on the page, indicating that Microsoft might be saving the announcement for its press conference at the Cologne trade show on August 12th.

Xbox One Price Cut

Although there’s a chance that this was an innocent clerical error, a second price cut in foreign markets might not be a bad idea. In Sony’s latest quarterly financial report, the company revealed that the PlayStation consoles are outselling the Xbox 360 and Xbox One at a 3:1 ratio.

Many of Microsoft’s initiatives to boost Xbox One sales, from better Games with Gold offerings to frequent, substantial software updates to a $100 price cut, have been marginally successful, but the company’s only chance to overtake the unstoppable force that is the PS4 might be to undercut it in select markets.

U.S. gamers shouldn’t expect this second price cut to make it to the states quite yet since the Xbox One is already a success in its home market. If Microsoft is going to stay competitive this generation, it needs to find a way to establish a foothold overseas.
