Asus unveils new PadFone Infinity with upgraded processor

Asus PadFone Infinity Launch

Asus took the stage in Taipei on Tuesday in order to officially announce the new PadFone Infinity. By all accounts, the new model of the smartphone-tablet combo looks nearly identical to the original PadFone Infinity. The changes lie within, and most notably include a quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, reports Engadget. The 5-inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution screen remains the same, along with the 2,400 mAh battery, 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and 1080p video capture.

As for the additions, the new PadFone Infinity now supports microSD cards for external storage, but the internal storage options have been lowered from 32 GB and 64 GB on the original phone to 16 GB and 32 GB on the new phone. The new PadFone Infinity also contains 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM as opposed to the DDR2 RAM of the original. Finally, the new Asus smartphone will come preloaded with Android 4.2.2.

There is no official release date yet for the U.S., but Asus has announced that the price for the PadFone Infinity in Taiwan will be NT$18,990 ($641 USD).
